You see, he is still doing his regular training which means 2-3 hour rides followed by a run……
in the afternoon…..
at these temps!!!
I can barely take it inside.
I usually end up sticking my head in the freezer for a good 5 minutes to cool off!
Feels nice in there, ahhh!
Speaking of freezers, ours has gotten a lot more use these days.
According to THIS article, freezing some of your favorite foods might help lower
your body’s temperature.
So I did what every normal overheated hormonal woman does and stuck our
favorite drinks and eats in the freezer.
Not your average use for a freezer but hey, it works! I have to say, the frozen yogurt cups are by far my favorite. I try to eat a frozen lara bar or some frozen smoothies in the morning before I teach outdoor conditioning and so far it has worked well. My core temp is cooled off for the time being.
Can’t Beat the Heat Circuit
warm up 10 minutes light jog/skips/high knees
- 10 on each leg- lunge/twist with weigh or medicine ball
- 10 dive bomber burpees (think dive bomber push up with a burpee after)
- 10 jump lunges and swing (jump lunge twice with weight overhead then swing med ball or weight to one side like a wood chop)
- 20 squat hops
- 20 scissor kicks
- 10 froggy to plank push up (start in this position them jump back to plank and add a push up)
- Repeat 4-5x ( we only got through 4 rounds due to time and it was TOUGH)
cool down with easy spin on bike/stretch
What’s favorite food are you freezing these days? Can you run in 100+F temps.
I bet this “Freaking Awesome” Arizona Runner can!
Cheers to Freezer Friday!

Good luck to all those racing this weekend. Lots of luck to Nora and Beth racing Boulder 70.3!!!!

Ok so I just ate and now Im feeling ill! I've never been so nervous! WOW!!!!! My freezer has fruit.. Sorry my brain isn't working this morning! Off to get my wetsuit.
The hubs is hardcore for training in the heat! It will only make him better for early morning races because he is adapted to heat! Woo hoo!!
OMG it's been THAT many days of insane heat?? I seriously think you need to hop a flight up to Boston, it's a gorgeous day, only in the 70s! PS. I always want to try freezing my yogurt cups but tend to forget to give it a shot, thanks for reminding me, I just popped one in the fridge ;-)
On Wednesday I worked the bar at work, which is in an old mill, so of course no AC, just fans... and pretty much the hottest day of the year at 113, and the mill was hotter than it was outside, so I was basically melting. Instead of drinking water I was sucking on ice cubes and I put a peach in the freezer for a little while to get it a little slushy. It was delicious! I also love frozen bananas and grapes.
And just thinking of running/biking in those temps exhausts me!
I'm not working out much in this weather - just a quick run in the evenings sometimes - but I'm coxing a rowing crew that has been out there pushing hard, training for masters nationals three days a week. We took off two of the 105* plus days to use the rowing machines in an under air-conditioned spot, but otherwise they've been out there getting in the conditioning and hydrating like crazy. Hopefully all this hot-weather training will give us a competitive advantage over the teams from Minnesota, Cali, etc - since the competition is next week, in Oklahoma City. :)
oh my gosh i cant even imagine it being that hot id die!
and freezing food = best idea everr!
i always freeze my bananas, strawberries, and watermelon!
definitely going to try to incorporate some of those moves into my workout today!!!
I about died when Ohio had over 100 for like 2 days, IDK if I could have handled 50!!!!
I havent frozen these in a while, but when I did gymnastics I would freeze my gatorade and my grapes! I miss frozen grapes!!!
When it is over 82 I dont run outside. I dont handle the humidity well when I workout, so I just skip(bad idea prolly) or work out in my house/go to the rec when Im close by it.
ooh a frozen larabar sounds awesome. as does frozen yogurt :) i'm trying to clean out my freezer in preparation of a move... but i might have to put a few things back in!! have a great weekend!
I love freezing things, or even just putting them in the fridge. Protein/Granola bars out of the fridge are sooo much better!
I love to make popsicles this time of year too. Easiest treat ever! And quite refreshing. I think I will copy you and stick my head in the freezer instead of turning on the AC this weekend ;)
Stay cool! Literally....
I love that picture of you and the freezer. Seriously..that is one of the best feelings in the world after a hot day outside!! I love the idea of freezing foods that normally wouldn't go in the freezer. I love some basic frozen items like grapes and blueberries. I will be trying the yogurt now! Running in any heat has always made me a wimp. I played soccer for 10years, and every single summer when we would practice I would feel like hell was taking over my insides. If only I had this idea, and a cold water bottle.
What a great idea!! I need to start throwing everything in the freezer! I'm glad we are no longer over 100 here! I was MELTING in that heat!
And that workout sounds hard! Keep staying cool, friend!
I have bags of frozen fruit for smoothies but lately I have just been taking the bag on my lap like it's a bag of chips and eating the fruit like mini popsicles.
i pop frozen blueberries like nothing else this time of year. love the sound of some frozen yogurt cups. i can't believe your hubs is outside training in this texas heat! killer.
Your hubby is a rockstar! That is some serious dedication and he deserves sometime of medal or something. Love the circuit, thanks for sharing.
And I always freeze everything! Frozen grapes are one of my favorites oh and frozen M&M's are hard to top as well. :) Have a great weekend and stay cool.
Hahahaha your face in the freezer - priceless! Have a good weekend, friend :)
lindsay how in the world does your hubs train in the heat? i can't imagine! i am actually looking forward to some heat in reno this weekend.....too chilly here at 72 degrees....maybe we should house swap for a week next summer?
YIKES 50 days of 100 degree temps?! That is crazy. You guys should come to Maine ;-) It'll feel cold in comparison but lovely! Good luck to your man on afternoon training, and you too! I love the freezer idea, so tasty! I sometimes wonder if Greek Yogurt would freeze well enough to be like ice cream??
I saw that you were looking forward to 90F heat. I am looking forward to a cool fron that makes it 90F haha. Lets swap, I'm all about that!

Holy heat! I'd be going crazy too! I can hardly run (ankle issues) much less in 100* heat! Ugh, talk about an energy zapper! THat's a pretty cool article about freezing your favorite foods. I might have to try it out!
Haha, head in the freezer shot = awesome.
I saw some articles on this "cold foods" thing, too. Interesting idea, and even if its not effective, who wouldn't want to eat/drink cold things in the heat? makes sense to me!
yes indeed! the hubs has been downing slurpees before a run. I wouldn't recommend a sugary loaded drink before a run but at this point, I could care less as long as he's cool! haha.

The heat in TX is unbearable! Do you think there is relief in sight?
i hope so! lets keep reminding ourselves that our winters are nice! right?
Lindsay

Please do! You'd love Idaho.. :)
I love heat but that might be a bit too much! I hope you guys get some relief soon!
Oops...the fruit bag was not for icing my body, more like I grab the whole bag and sit on the couch (or in bed) with it just snacking away as if it were a bag of chips. Certainly not gonna happen in the winter.
The bar is completely separate from the restaurant, so no cooking in it. Just sitting in it was horrible enough! I've never sweat so much just from sitting down.
That works! Frozen grapes are also delicious. Try to stay cool!
My gosh! We had 2 days of temps being over 100 and I thought I was going to die!!! I don't know how you do it!!!!
AHHHH I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT HEAT and that is crazy awesome that he is still training so much in all of that!! I FREEZE everything and it helps so much. I have also been living off of popsicles:) LOVE smoothies with frozen fruit too!
Ugh, it's awful isn't it? I don't know HOW your husband does it! I've been freezing my water and coconut water the night before I head out for a long run. It's usually melted with in an hour, but at least it's chilly that first hour! hehe It does make ice baths after long runs a little easier though!
note to self... don't step any nearer the freezer! unless you want to be stuck to it for a good while ;)
Love this idea - I'm totally going to try it! Just not with my Kombucha. That seems a little dangerous for my liking...
oh I know! and i bath feel nice. you could swim all day in it. haha. Have a great run tomorrow!!

I like frozen grapes and pitted cherries -- very cold and refreshing!
Have a nice weekend!
Omg I don't know how your hubs and you can be out in that heat! I don't even like to run outside when it's in the 80s haha. I actually don't freeze anything that shouldn't be frozen, but now I'm definitely going to think about what goodies might be good frozen! That workout sounds awesome :)
Oh my God. I don't know how you two do it. I have to walk (10 min each way) to and from the gym every day and I can barely manage THAT. Let alone owrking out outside...forget it! Ugh.
Frozen grapes. I love frozen grapes post bike ride. :) Frozen peanut butter is delish and totally dangerous! I freeze everything! :) come visit me! it's only bene about 90 here for the last two weeks!
i love freezing my food & eating it chilly! i mix up cut oranges with almond milk, a little greek yogurt & some vanilla. stick it in the freezer & it tastes like an orangesicle!!!
oh that sounds perfect! i love dreamsicles! good call girl!

mad props for your husband, I would not be on a bike for 3 hours out there in that heat...I can barely take my indoor workouts, haha
and don't you just love dive bombers....love/hate those, on day I hope I can do more than 5
Michelle
please tell me your hair doesn't really like that gorgeous in 100+ weather. My locks would be a frizzball and a half! This just reaffirms that you're a goddess :) and James is a God. I would probably refuse to step foot outside if it was that hot, let alone run!
I actually haven't washed it in 3 days. Gross I know! But its less frizzy with grease. Haha! P.S.
I owe you an email!!

Linds! I always keep my larabars in the refrigerator, and sometimes the freezer. :) I also keep raw nuts and granola in the freezer. And anything chocolate. It's SO HOT. I like going to work because it's air-conditioned.
oh. my. gosh. That is REALLY hot!!!
its been crazy hot for yall for a while! maybe in 3 or 4 months there will be some relief ; ) your workouts always prove to be a challenge...look forward to trying this one! happy wknd linds!
Katie : )
Seriously, the heat is crazy! I love frozen grapes for hot days. That reminds me, I'm out of grapes! Here's a link for FROG jam. I haven't tried this brand, but you can order it from them. It is so good! http://shop.hillsideorchardfarms.net/category.sc?categoryId=115
OH man....TX has been HAWT!!! YOur circuit looks killer Lindsay!! Coach just went to his first Cross fit class and it HOOKED. He and I are going to create WOD and I will be stalking your blog (like I usually do) for ideas!!
the dive bomber burpees are even more killer! haha, but I love it. Hope one day we can do a bodyrock together! hehe.

hahaha! i used to always stick my head in the freezer during weekends at the lake when I was a kid. it was so hot and humid down there that I couldn't stand it! such a great idea about freezing my electrolyte drinks...I gotta give that a try! Thanks for the tip :) hang in there with the heat...hopefully it gives you a break soon!
i couldn't open the link, but is it for the runners world article on the Texas Hottest Half and drinking slurpees? I'm running that race next weekend and am looking forward to a cold drink before...and the ice mountains after :)
I usually have smoothies after a run, and freeze out my shower to cool off afterward, but I'm pretty bad about cooling off before working out
I always freeze grapes... always. It's also awesome to put a little lime juice on them before you freeze them too!
You and James are awesome for withstanding the heat. Although, 92-93 I've gotten used to here in Tampa
I LOVE frozen grapes...I could survive off those things!
Eek, what a terrible heat! Summer is bad and rather cool in Heidelberg this year, but we've also had temperatures like that. You don't know which clothes to put off still!
I like to freeze fruit and then throw them into the blender with almond milk and make thick smoothie icecream. :)
and frozen cherries! both so good!
Lindsay

Oy! Thats some scorching heat. Also - lara bar in the freezer! I would think my teeth would hurt biting into it!
Mad props to James for enduring grueling training in the heat!! Is he a mortal man or a Superfriend with a hidden power? Those temps...WOW!!!
i think he's immortal. Maybe he's sweats ice? haha, don't you miss the texas heat? jk.

frozen grapes are still my favorite.. and lightly frozen clementines. Just like when I was a kid.
My fam has also been telling me how H-O-T-T it is in ATX right now, crazy how it's record heat for such a long time! Sounds like you have it under control with the frozen treats, though! Those olade drinks are awesome -- haven't had one in a while, but I can't imagine many things that would taste better after training in that Texas heat! Be careful out there, girl! :) xoxo
i should try clementines!!

What happened to your new template?!
Ah, I'd love to have 80 degrees these days. Send it doen here! Haha. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile
I know! The pool is our only relief. But even that is hot now.
Oh and we're still working on the new site. Ugh, gonna be a process!
