Last Tuesday I posted this on my Facebook Wall:
I will do this today! "Instead of focusing on a to-do list today, create a “to enjoy” list and check those things off instead."
Then come Wednesday, my good friend Heather posted THIS amazing post about making an Enjoy List. She posted it on Facebook too!
Heather : “Also started a To-Enjoy List Challenge inspired by Lindsay Cotter?”
After my Friday post, my other good friend Kalli left me this comment.
“so sorry you had a tough week girl! hang in and yes read some of YOUR posts.....they are very uplifting for sure.”
And that’s when it hit me. HARD! I thought to myself….
“Lindsay, wake up and practice what you preach, take your own advice, switch your FOCUS!”
Okay okay, I hear ya! And I can’t thank these ladies enough for making me realize that this weekend. Today I will remember my PROMISES and start making my ENJOY LIST!
This week I Enjoyed….
some one on one time with this cutie.
Staying up late watching the NBA finals (GO MAVS) while enjoying GF cold one.
I definitely grew up around too many boys.
slurping right out of the bowl of a delicious COLD breakfast
Stopping in to see family and leaving feeling even more encouraged and loved!
Finding hidden Gems- cute little coffee shop off a beaten path
Running through the sprinklers after a hot run.
Hot but good! And I’ve got the red cheeks to prove it
And pretty soon, I’ll enjoy driving to the airport to pick up this cute guy.
I feel as if I could go on forever with this list. All those little things really do add up. I’m sure glad I finally decided to take my own advice, it made for a very ENJOYABLE weekend.
What's the best advice you ever taken? Did you make your enjoy list?
Do it now if not!
Cheers,
LC
p.s.
Congrats to all those who raced this weekend. Lots marathon runners, triathletes, and more! You guys know who you are.

thanks for the reminder...I need to involve the kids and find out what's on their "enjoy" list for the summer. sounds like you have made good use of your weekend!!
Awesome! Sometimes it's easier to come up with some great advice for others, but we forget to take that advice ourselves. I am so glad you stopped to remember all those positives. You are so amazing and inspiring. (and thank you for the shout out.)
hmmm, the best advice i've ever taken? my mom told me to stop wearing padded bras. i mean, who was i kidding? :) i'm glad that you're stopping to see the roses! I don't make enjoy lists, but i do make "grateful" lists! :) i think i got the idea from oprah!
Aaaw!!!! How awesome! :D I've enjoyed spending some time with my family this week and finishing up with school!!!
Hmm best advice..It is what it is.. and this too shall pass. I love seeing your photos! I so hope one day to come and meet you both!
I LOVE THIS. Your pics are amazing and totally tell the story. I am not sure if this counts as advice...but yesterday, Alicia who was running the marathon with me, came up at mile 23 and said "just remember that every step is one step further than you have ever gone." That just struck me and stuck with me for some reason...Before then I was wanting to walk the last hill, etc and then I realized just take it one step at a time and I will get there. I was actually able to enjoy and cherish the last 3 miles :) It has been a great weekend and more than anything I am just trying to enjoy every single second of my family being here! I have been thinking about your hubs this morning in his race and following your tweets on twitter! Hope he can finish strong!
I actually wrote a post about ups and downs of my week, and as I was writing it, more ups came to mind than downs. I think writing the ups first was the key! Keeping my finger crossed for the results!!
It's true, you are very inspiring! I also love the tiny buddha website - it gives me LOADS of inspiration!! Love her! :)
Hope your Sunday is great and you ENJOY it! :)
You deserve to enjoy all of that and more, you rock! And that breakfast looks so delicious!!
Yey for pup time, beer, great eats, runs, and time with family :)
Lindsay I don't think you're the only one who has a hard time practicing what she preaches, because we all have a hard time achieving everything we strive for. Just remember 'progress not perfection' :)
The list of things I'm doing this week while Nick is gone is kind of like my to enjoy list. As I'm not worrying about his job stuff at the moment (or at least it's easier not to when he's not here) I'm trying to focus a little more on my enjoyment! So far so good! :)
Great post friend, I'm happpy that you took some times this weekend after your crazy week to enjoy everything! I'm terrible at taking my own advice! I'll take your advice and make that enoy list though!
Awww...love your pup. And that coffee shop is adorable!
I love this advice! I had so many moments of enjoyment this weekend. And I'm really going to enjoy some family time this afternoon before I pick up Billy at the airport tonight. Also enjoying the next couple of hours with nothing to do (read blogs & clean!) for the 1st time in ages. :)
I agree. The ups first makes a huge difference. You feel so thankful, ya know?
And James got 6th today!! Much better than last week. Phew! thanks for keeping
those fingers crossed!

You are so inspiring!! :) I love this list. I still need to make a to-enjoy list -- this post is kicing my butt into gear! :D
Looks like you enjoyed wonderful things! I think the "To Enjoy" list is a great idea. It really puts things into perspective....sometimes the smallest things can be the happiest part of our days!
I haven't made a 'to enjoy' list as yet but I love the concept: I think I'll get right on that this evening.
The best piece of advice I (plan) on taking is to follow my dreams and go for a career that would make me happy, not one that would make the most amount of money. I feel a weight off my shoulders just to hear that from someone and am being more proactive in trying to make it happen than ever before.
I'm so happy you took your own advice and had a lovely weekend!
xxx
Lindsay I love the idea of a "to enjoy" list -- I definitely need to keep my focus on how wonderful life is -- not how many things I need to do or what I am lacking. I am very blessed and I need to remember that!
I've decided to not do my cleaning today and enjoy a book. Its cooler and rainy out - the perfect day for it! The dirt will still be there tomorrow!
yay :) A cold beer makes EVERYTHING better! and maybe some fro-yo!
Aw, what a great weekend, Linds! I'm glad you were able to enjoy so much of it. The family and doggie pics are adorable. And yay for picking up the hubs! (PS, how cool is it that his name is on his shorts? Oh, the fun little things of being a pro:).
I did enjoy my weekend (time with the husband, which was much needed because he has been working long hours this week; time with friends; relaxing and watching a movie; some time outdoors in the nice weather; a nice meal out at a restaurant). Now I actually need to enjoy less and work on thesis MORE. Haha:).
-Erin @ www.untilyoutri.com
haha the best bit of that post? the running through the sprinklers!! my dad used to make a 'rainbow' with our hosepipe when we were younger and he was watering the garden in the evening. that's exactly what it reminds me of! being a carefree kiddo :)
oh I am so happy erin! your weekend makes me happy. Enjoy the rest of your
sunday!

So glad you could enjoy!! And such great things to enjoy:) :)
Honestly some of the best advice of late has come from you - this whole "to enjoy" list is amazing. Between reading about it here and on Heather's blog, I"m focusing so much more on enjoying things everyday rather than seeing how much I can tick off my to-do list. You are very special ya know, you always leave quite the impression on me. I hope the rest of your weekend is amazing my dear!
So glad you are taking your own advice...because it's some of the best there is!! Sometimes it's really hard to do, I completely can relate to that, but you are doing it. Finding the little things to make you smile and realize that life, yeah, it's pretty darn good :) happy weekend (what's left of it!)
So glad you made time to enjoy the little things!!! And even more to enjoy after that trip to the airport :)
I need to take your advice! I always make TONS of to do lists, and usually they are things that are not for my enjoyment. So, from now on, weekends especially, I will call it my To-Enjoy list. I should try to get all of my "work" done during the week, so that my weekends can be filled with enjoyment!
that sounds like a perfect idea Katie. Go for it next week and let me know how
it goes. Hope the knee is better.
:)

I definitely feel like we relate on that. We think things in our head that are
so good to hear, yet we need others to push us to do it. But thats why we have
each other, right? A nice push in the right direction.
:)

Reading your enjoy list made me happy as well! :) You're so right: The things we could be happy about are around us all the time, but in the stress of daily life and sorrows we often don't see them anymore. This is why reffocusing and being mindful is so important, it's really a matter of attention.
i agree! I am so glad Heather reposted it. It really hit hard...in a good
good way! hope you had a great sunday Jess.

Understood! I enjoyed my race and placing in it! Eek! And a really nice dinner aka pizza icecream and wine with another couple :) but i do need to remember that because this week will be insane!

The best advice I've ever taken is to treat every person like it's their last day alive and treat every day like it's my last day alive. :) Cute blog you got going here!!
The best advice I have ever been given is the "I get to," attitude. Instead of thinking "I have to," think "I get to." It makes you become more thankful for what you can do and what you are able to do rather then always thinking the negitive way of "I have to." I love the idea of an enjoy list, I am going to have to make one this week!!
I really want to try that bisque!!!! Looks sooo amazing!
What a great weekend I'm glad you enjoyed it. Great advice:)
now thats some great advice! This is something I need to hear daily. Thanks

Great advice! We were just watching the MAVs here too! Woohoo!! Made for a great Sunday night for sure. I think tonight Im going to enjoy the cool breeze and just enjoy some peace tonight before another week starts. Have a great Sunday!
Looks like some pretty enjoyable things were done this weekend!! YAYY to the MAVs!!! I have a list of enjoyable things to do and now I just need to start doing them! Wishing you a great week Linds!
Katie : )
It is official. I am sitting down to make a to-enjoy list ASAP! You and Heather have definitely convinced me it is a necessity to lighten my mood. This sounds like it could really switch my focus from all the craptastic things I have to do to some of the nicer things I GET to do. Thank you as always Lindsay for making my day a little better :-)
the best advice I ever took was, "sleep on it." Because even when things *aren't* better in the morning, I'm WAY better equipped to deal with chaos after a night's sleep. :)
Happy to hear you're turning it around---and lucky you with so many real and virtual smiles coming your way! :) Have a good week, friend!
Damn, you're right. I really need to start doing what I say too... I didn't even realize I wasn't till I read this! Glad you figured it out Lindsay and I hope I do too.

Looked like a great weekend, a great time to take your own advice ;)
we had a wonderful weekends with our parents, took our advice to let everything else go and just enjoy life as it comes, no pressure or anything, haha loved it
Funny how sometimes we forget to practice what we preach. Wonderful to have friends to remind us!
Lots of things to enjoy over there! :) I always think about what's making me happy when I'm over here 'hanging out' with you - a nice way to start my morning! Best advice I've ever taken: step out of the comfort zone. There is a LONG list of things I've done over the past couple of years that would have never happened if I stayed inside my 'box'. I've never made a "to enjoy" list, but I love the idea :) I'll get on that!
awww yay! so so so glad you're following your own FANTABULOUS advice! I'm guilty of forgetting to do the same sometimes and I love your blog for keeping me back on track! mwah!
xoXOxoJenn @ Peas & Crayons
Your family is oh so cute :)
Love how you decided to focus on the things you enjoyed this past week- you are so positive Lindsay. I love all of your positive energy!
How did your hubby do? I know I was tweeting you yesterday, but then I got off Twitter so I'm not sure if you posted some more results.
& YAYYYYYYY Mavs!!!!!!!!!!!! Could not be happier- I did NOT want Miami to win.
I loved reading all the things you enjoyed this week! The best advice I've taken is usually from my mom. Even though we don't always see eye to eye, I really respect her wisdom.
LOVE this Lindsay!! I will definitely make an Enjoy List!! :) Aww your family are so CUTE and that little coffee shop looks amazing! And haha running through sprinklers is the best thing EVER!!
Hope the Hubs did well and you guys have a great week!
Man I wish I could turn things around like you!! My 'ickyness' seems to hang out for a couple of days. Should we make WWLD bracelets? ;)
I am SO happy that you have been able to slow down this weekend! Is James home yet?!?! You have such a beautiful family and a nice cold breakfast sounds so good right now! I have been worried about you and you are in my prayers!!!
LISTENING TO YOUR BODY....trying to follow that advice every day of my life right now!
Love this post Lindsay! I am making my enjoy list today. It truly is the simple things in life that make it so enjoyable.
I hope things went well for your hubby Sunday. I was definitely thinking of you both all day.
I would like to make a to-enjoy list! That's an excellent suggestion :)
I didn't make a to-enjoy list - but I did post a list of things I love! I think that's kind of a "to-enjoy" list of it's own - and I definitely need to take some time to enjoy the things I love!
so glad you were able to turn it around!! i took the day off yesterday, pretty much completely. no running, swimming or biking, no running into work. a little cooking, a lot of relaxing, and no guilt. just what i needed :)
You have 96 comments! Wow. Loved the post. I spent the day doing homework and cleaning, but took a few breaks to read my favoirte blogs and watch an episode of Friends. Thanks for the reminder!
I love reading this blog! You all need to check out these benefits you get from running here!

Boo Mavs!! lol ;) Aww I need to make an enjoy list. I love that :)
I am laughing to myself! I have loads and loads of laundry to do and the dryer broke! So I have NO choice, but to sit back and enjoy something. :)
Thanks for the post Lindsay, you always have such good advice. Glad you took some from yourself.
Have a great week!!

I love the "enjoy list" idea! My "to-do" list is pretty long tonight, so I was feeling guilty for procrastinating by reading blogs...But then I read this, and thought, "I'm going to ENJOY doing those things on my to-do list rather than dreading them." Bring on that 10 page paper! :-)
Running through sprinklers and hidden gem coffee shops are some of life's simplest joys. So glad you were able to enjoy them! <3
I hope you're enjoying your man this week! I enjoyed a walk down to the lake with Tony last night. Definitely a highlight to my day!
I am so so glad you have been enjoying everything life has to offer lately! That is awesome - and you deserve it. I know the hubs has been gone, so you probably will be busy with him this week, but if you have time for lunch or a run or something Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, let me know! Id love to see you. Otherwise, perhaps in August!
You are such an inspiration!! I feel like positivity oozes from you! Such a wonderful person to be around! I hope you get to pick up your hubby soon! Thankful you have Sadie to keep you company.
Best advice: Never stop reaching. I drew a picture in AP art (yes, AP!) in HS of my hand reaching towards a softball...and my dad coined the phrase. A transferable set of words for anything in life!!
Awww I love all the family pictures! And the puppy is ADORABLE. I love chocolate labs!
The best advice I've ever taken is to live in the moment. It sounds so cliche, but it's so important. I've wasted a lot of time worry about things that might happen or already happened, and ignoring what is important at the moment. I've missed out on a lot because of this and ever since I've taken this advice, life just has a lot more memorable moments!
I'm so glad you got to this! I bet it made the paper a whole lot easier, right?
