But I also had the chance to listen to a few podcasts and make a few batches of healthy bites. I love turning on podcasts while cooking/baking. It’s the dork in me shining bright! One podcast I came across was a sermon about how we affect others. Yes, people notice our words, our actions, our tone, our lifestyle.
So what? Big deal. Why Should we care? Well, my thoughts exactly. If someone doesn’t like the way I act/live, that’s their problem. Right? Then these words were spoken and my ears perked up like a dog fixating on a noise. I rewound the podcast, listened again, and took it all in. One.Word. At. A. Time.
“Because the truth is, if you come in contact with someone you either leave them feeling better about themselves or worse, but you never leave them unaffected.”
Did you get that? Ya, no matter what, you leave an impact, or rather an impression, on someone. It’s up to you to choose how. I honestly can say I never really thought about that. Call me naïve, call me blind sided, call me whatever. BUT this opens up a whole new world to me and I find myself asking these questions.
- How do I speak to others?
- How do I show respect (for myself and others)?
- How do I show genuine care?
- Do I show compassion, gratitude, and love?
Maybe these are rhetorical questions for you? Maybe you already notice the way affect others (positively). No need to overthink, just take it in. Ya know?
Speaking of how we affect others….The Great Fundraising Act is Live!! And Susan is on twitter today sharing her story (1-2pm Eastern Time). Check it out with the #TGFA hash.
Freaking Awesome!
I’m auctioning off some Healthy Bites, but though I’d also share a recipe from a previous flavor so that you all can make them at home.
The Breakfast Bite
These bites remind of my favorite breakfast growing up. Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup packed organic raisins
- 3/4 cup rolled oats (gluten free)
- cinnamon
- 3 TBSP honey (add more if needed)
- 1 serving vanilla protein powder (vegan, whey, etc.)
- 1 cup brown rice crispies
- combine raisins and brown rice crispies in food processor. Blend until raisins are chopped well. Then add oats. Pulse all together until oats are somewhat chopped and blended in. Transfer into a bowl and add remaining ingredients. Mix thoroughly and then roll into balls. Store in freezer or fridge to keep fresh. Makes around 20-25 bites.

Your bites looks SOOO yummy!!!! Wish I lived in Texas for you to show me how to make these!!!!
I LOVE podcasts!!!!
ahhhhh cinnamon raisin oatmeal! I ate that DAILY as a kid until I was about 7. Then it was all about maple brown sugar ;-) haha!!I was totally going to bid on your healthy bites today but they're already out of my price range (the move is killing me)! Good for Susan, bad for my taste buds. hahaha.
And this -- what you wrote about how we affect others -- is so timely. I'm reading Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth" and the way I look at EVERYTHING..myself, the world, my role in it...is totally being upended and revolutionized.
Those breakfast bites look AWESOME!
Your breakfast bites look great and perfect for an on the go snack :) They already have a good price on them!
Glad you got some rest....you and me both! Nice to start the week off rested rather than spent for a change!
I've been battling with the whole "how others perceive me' notion for awhile. I had the same attitude- I am who I am and if others don't like me, tough. What you shared is exactly what I needed to hear- thank you.
lovely, encouraging words to start off my week - thank you! what are your favorite podcasts?
I love listening to my church's podcast (the austin stone) or Joyce meyer. She's
too funny!

I was *so* in the running for awhile... but, lucky for Susan, people far wealthier than I am are bidding. :D
I like the essence of this thought, that you leave someone better or worse off, because even though we don't want it to be the second one, it's still somehow better than simply being forgotten... happy Monday to you, my sister in Koru-hood! (I got mine in Rotorua on my first trip in 2008---the "new beginning" spoke to me. This last trip in 2010, SAME shop in Rotorua, I got a fish hook because "strength" spoke to me. I actually dropped my koru and it broke, so now it's tapu... but I can't stop wearing it. Dumb Pakeha!) ;)
oh awesome! i got mine in Queenstown. I love it. It means the world to me and so
powerful.
<3! Sister.

So true about making an impact, even if we don't want to! It makes me think of celebrities who talk about "I didn't sign up to be a role model" -- hello, everyone on earth is some kind of role model since we see what others do and that affects what we do or how we feel. You can't escape it.
Thanks for the reminder though -- it certainly makes me want to leave a positive impact on others!
Such a great reminder that our actions do indeed have an effect. So even just smiling at someone can quite possibly make their day.
Those bites look fantastic, yum!
So glad you enjoy your weekend. It's great to be thinking about how we affect other through our actions, words, everything. If only everyone acted in a way that uplifted others around them--can you imagine?!
Your posts are always so encouraging and though provoking, I love them!
Awesome and so encouraging!!
YUM those loko and sound so delicious! oatmeal raisin cookies are my FAVORITE!
Wow, that quote from the podcast really makes me think! I want to bid on stuff, but pretty much everything is way past what my grad school budget will allow haha...so I just donated :).
Wow, love that message. Totally made me reread that three tomes before it stuck. Love little sneak attack messages like that! And um, next order of healthy bites def going to include that one! Yum!
Happy Monday to you LC! Such a wonderful quote from the podcast and a great reminder...you are not alone...I usually tend to think that I can slip by others unnoticed at times. Puts a lot of things into perspective realizing that your time with someone, no matter the length, has an impact. I definitely need to go ponder this some more...wow. Have a wonderful evening!
happy monday! glad you had a good day baking. You always seem to be so sweet and insightful with your deep thoughts, I love reading them.
Those "balls" look amazing!! :D
ponder it my friend, then let me know whatcha think! I know your heart. so kind
and sweet!

thank you for those questions. It is sometimes very easy to forget about the people around you when you get wrapped up in life. I want to make people feel good! Maybe I'll distribute some of those awesome bites. That would surely make ANYONE feel amazing! :D

wow so true and worth hearing.....it will come with me where ever i go.
thanks lindsay and those bites look amazing!
This is so true! Seriously! I have realized this summer that there are people in my life that I truly LOVE spending time around because they always make me feel great. And there are people who I find myself unexcited to spend time around and when I examined the reasons, it was because these "friends" made me walk away feeling badly. So much negativity. Anyway, love this post!
yep, you described it so well. And now it gets me thinking....How do I make
people feel. Ya know?

Cinnamon raisin oatmeal?? Yummmm!
I love to listen to podcasts when I run, too:). I do think we should care how we act around others, because we do influence everyone we come in contact with. I think having a positive attitude can bring a small bit of positivity into others lives...whether through social media, when spending time with friends, random strangers on the street, and DEFINITELY in the workplace (where I think people have a tendency to be stressed/rushed and not treat each other as well as they could). I know I am far from perfect, but I do try really hard to have a positive attitude at work and be willing ot take time to help people...and you know what, it makes ME happier, too:)
oh yea. Let me know how they like it. So hows the new crib?

I've always believed that even the people we will never see again will affect our lives...and vice versa. In college, I see some people treat others unkindly at times and part of me feels likes it's because people see these relationships as transitory. Like, if you're not going to be in my life forever, I don't have to be nice to you all the time. But I think that smiling at a stranger can make their day better, and one day can make all the difference sometimes. It makes me feel powerful to think I can have a positive effect on a person's life, and I think it makes me a kinder person.
I so agree with you susan. Moments might be transitionary but they are always
rememberd. The good, the bad, the smiles, the frowns, the kindness, etc
I love your words.

This is such a great quote, it will definitely be written down in my notebook because it is a great reminder! Thanks :)
woowhooooo amen to that Lindsay!! wait! I think I heard that sermon before! do you recall the speaker? :P But it's sooo true, and I think it's so important to always live life intentionally, doint everything thinking of others first, without demeaning ourselves. You're so beautiful and awesome...
They certainly do look good!! Do you have a favorite podcast you like to listen to?
i like to listen to a lot. My church has a really good one (the austin stone
church), joyce meyer, Dr. laura, etc. Good stuff!

That quote is so true. I can think back to people who had a big impact on me, people who have no idea that an action, some words, a look would etch itself into my mind.
I also think about it often with my kids and see such a big difference in their behavior and their tone of voice when I consciously remember to watch my tone and my words. It's humbling.
Lindsay, your item looked perfect!! I was outbid on everything I bid on! Holy wicked awesome generosity, is all I can say!
its the only time I was okay or THRILLED to be out bidded. ya know? so awesome!

Oh, Linds! I love this post. You always leave a positive impact on me. It really is something important to think about. I want to leave positive impacts! Those healthy bites look amazing. I'm all about the cinnamon raisin oats. :)
Umm can I come over and bake with you while listening to podcasts, because that sounds uhhmazing. I foresee the amount of laughter giving me an instant 6 pack, allowing endless amounts of these delicious looking bites.
Gosh, even though I'm almost always conscious of the way I'm treating others, I don't necessarily think about the IMPACT of my actions and words. But that quote is SO true! Single sentences, hugs, eye connections etc. have, at various points in my life, left a lasting impression on me. It's truly incredible how we all have the power to empower somebody else every single time we interact with others!
Mmm I'm loving that Healthy Bite recipe! These would make a fabulous breakfast on-the-go. :)
WOW! Ok, anything that tastes like a cinnamon bun, I am in! How gorgeous are these?! NICE!
This is an amazing reminder to me about how we as humans try to raise people up or lower them to our vibes. Interesting when you look at how we treat ourselves. You inspire me girl! Love you!
xxoo
That quote is so true. Think about how many tiny interactions with someone have left a huge (positive or negative) impact and how someone can cut you down or lift you up with just a statement. It's a little overwhelming to think about!
it is overwhelming, but ina good way. Because ultimately its up to us to choose
our reactions, our responses, our "interactions," right? Using that power to
leave a lasting impact, not a bad one. Ya know?
Oh and can I just say, the socks rocked it yesterday!

Ohhhh that's one of the truest quotes I've ever read! I'm very bi-polar in thinking about how often I think about how I've spoken to or interacted with someone; I either totally think about it, or I don't. Most often, when I've come across someone who's obviously having a bad day, I know not to take things personally and usually remember that no matter what kind of day I'm having, someone out there is having an even worse day. That's when I'm 100% conscience of how I'm interacting.
Those bites look delish, missy! I hope you have an amazing, glorious, blessed week!
What a great quote and something that is so important to remember. I do try to be conscious of my tone when I am expecting interactions with others however I definitely find that I can be a little to shy/withdrawn with surprise encounters/introductions. Definitely something I need to work on because I do want to have a positive effect on others!
I LOVE the look of those bites. Cinnamon Raisin, yes please! :D
was bummed i couldn't bid on your healthy bites due to an unexpected financial situation right now, but i'll have to make these breakfast bites instead :) loved your pictures from teh weekend!!
The bids got way up there, but thats a good thing! Glad you can make these. Let
me know if you do! and I hope all the financial stuff works out. I hear ya
on that!

Argh- so convicting on the sermon/podcast. I had one of those moments at the track this morning. This guy is not very nice to other runners and I found myself having a debate in my head on how I should respond knowing that I had an opportunity to make a positive difference. I chickened out and didn't say anything, but this further convinces me I need to not ignore opportunities like that.
Love the message from the sermon. Again, one of your great reminders that's much appreciated.
I certainly want to dive into those healthy bites!! So delish and convenient!!
What genuine questions to consider when interacting with others. I know you are a joy to be around. So, wishing I lived near you. one day maybe since we are both somewhat nomadic!
That's such an interesting (and true!) thought about touching everyone you come into contact with in some way. I can certainly see how others affect me (within reason... the guy walking his dog past me this morning didn't really have an impact :) ).
it does look good, i have recently gone back to running, I forgot how my feet and ankles don't like it when I do this.
Isn't it incredible how much was raised!! Holy smokes!!
What a wonderfully sweet thing to say. Thank you. You made my day!
