A is for…..

First of all, just wanted to say thank you from the Cotter Crew. Your kind words from the last post (race recap) pretty much MADE OUR WEEK!

So on to today. It’s a filler post. I firmly believe in filler posts if NEED BE! Meaning, they are informative, light-hearted, and fun or clever. I need this today. It gives my mind and my emotions a break. But it also keeps things going and moving, which is what we’re all about. Moving forward….one DAY at a TIME!

Here goes.

A is for…..

A is for Austin

We’ll be home for the month. No racing till AUGUST.
There’s no place like Austin, come visit PLEASE!
rough hollow 004

A is for Active Recovery

Since the hubs is not racing anytime soon, he can focus on a good solid block of quality training. But FIRST, he must focus on Active Recovery.
I decided I’d do the same with a little Aqua Jogging.

Beats running in the 100+ heat! And no I’m not injured or insane. Winking smile
aqua
A is for ATE….(WIAW)

What, did you think I’d forget?
WIAWbutton

Lets just say we have yet to restock our fridge since being home.
But at least we have the Cotter Staples…

Eggs and GF Toast!
P1090133P1090128P1090129P1090130

And on a whole other note, I am still thinking about these.....
the famous VOODOO donuts were at the PORTLAND RACE!

DSCF0851
DSCF0853DSCF0854
Think I could try to make these “GF style?” Now there’s a challenge!

A is for AUCTION!!

If you're not paying attention to this post (which is totally cool), at least pay attention to this!!
image_thumb5
I sure hope most of you know about this by now, and if you haven’t, well here it is!!

Susan (aka the great balancing act) was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma. The scary thing is that she lived a very healthy lifestyle before all this happened. She is currently in the hospital undergoing treatment. You can read about her brave story here! But needless to say, cancer comes with more than just a diagnosis, it come with treatment and medical bills! Being self employed myself, I can only imagine the cost of treatment for her.

This auction is our chance to come together and support! Bloggers are awesome at this and we can help relieve Susan of this financial burden.

Check out Janetha’s page for details!! I’ll be auctioning off some fun items. But you'll have to stay tuned till next Wednesday to find out what. hehe!

So there you have it. My A list!
Any A’s you can relate too? Are you coming to Austin to visit me? Open-mouthed smile

Cheers!
LC

If I ate all those donuts, I'd need some active recovery too :P

What a terrible diagnosis! I'm sending all my best wishes and good thoughts! I'd love to do more, but I'm just so tight myself again. :(

I've never been to Austin (or Texas), but it looks like this should be changed. One day. :) I also haven't gone swimming for just too long.

Thank you so much for the information about the auction. I am adding it to my calendar now and also now stalking their blogs. Those donuts look like the most amazing thing ever!! enjoy your month home :) I SO wish I could come visit :)

Cute post!  Austin is awesome : )    I saw Voodoo Donuts on the Food Network or Trave Channel, can t remember but people were crazy about them!  Keep moving forward one day at a time!
Hugs!

hey...
just read your post about the hubs.  nothing impresses more than 1) a pro finishing a race no matter what AND 2) if they can't finish, then being there to cheer on the rest of the athletes.  as an age grouper i feel it is important for a pro to finish OR be there...it shows respect for the sport and for the rest of us out there.  great big hugs for the hubs!!!!
i am thinking about IM Arizona next year....(hubs is racing that isn't he? )  that's as close as i'll get to austin!

I'm sure it will be SO nice to be home! That is a long time to be away.
OMG..those donuts! Holy moly!! I have to check out your older posts (sorry, blog catch up reading :) )
I can't wait for the auction!! I hope it raises a ton of money for Susan!!!

Mmmm...I most definitely grubbed on some VooDoo before knowing I was gluten intolerant. I had a plain chocolate one day and an actual voodoo donut the next. :) If you make a gf version, I WANT TO KNOW! I love Austin. Goal is to make it there at least once before the end of the year.

Allie said...

My name starts with A so yeah for A's :)
I so wish I could come to Austin! I've never been there :)
I so wish I could eat all of those donuts in that picture ;)
An a for today for me---acceptance. I need to accept the fact that life is hard, risky, but I have to take the challenges as a way of the Lord teaching me things.

lindsay cotter said...

Oh Nora, so many events I austin to train for!!
The Austin 70.3 is in october and then tons of marathons/half marathons all through the fall!

Just sayin.

That pool workout looks SO refreshing! Smart girl :)

My A today is for Airlines being AWESOME (you'll probably never hear me say that again). I checked the prices on some flights I"ll hopefully be taking in October, only to be so pleasantly surprised by cheap airfare! FTW.  It was definitely a mood-boost that I needed today!

oh, you are SOOOO tempting me with a trip to austin!  i'm possibly doing the austin tri on labor day--will you be around then??  i want to, but there's a local race the weekend before and i'm not sure i'm hard core enough to race 2 weekends in a row while training for a 1/2 IM.  i'm also still debating my HIM choice--there's a semi-local race on nov 7th (which i did in 2009), but i'd like to finally do an official IM event so that leaves longhorn which again is in AUSTIN!  my hesitation is in the run course- i don't like walter long park and it's lack of shade!!  so there it is...convince me to come to austin, come on, i dare you...twist my arm.. ;)

A is for....always playing catch up on my blogs:( This is the LAST WEEK EVER of thesis writing, so hopefully I will be done with playing catch up all the time, soon. Of course I say that but we have a couple vacations coming up, soooo...Hmm. Anyway, so sad about Susan:( My first triathlon was with Team in Training, which fundraises for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. One of my best friends was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer this year, too (at the healthy age of 26, which is crazy). So sad:( I will definitely go check out the auction!

I love you A's! I so wish I could come visit you in Austin! It's been so long since I've been down there. The aquajogging looks so refreshing. Seriously, it's so hot outside it makes me sick. I have to go read about that auction. Sadly, being healthy or living an active lifestyle really DOES NOT matter. I know a lot of people who think it is - it's very naive to think that way. No one person is at decreased risk - genetics, history...just our bodies, environments - LIFE -....well, all of us are susceptible. So just be grateful for everyday and thank God.

Thanks for sharing the link and story.
