Seesaw Life

"Your mind is somewhat like a seesaw.
As your trust in God goes up, fear and worry automatically go down."

Oh how true is that quote! I read it this morning in my devotional and it hit home. So much of our life (meaning me and the hubs) is up and down. We’re up one minute and down the next. We’ve soared high and sunk low. And you know what, it comes with the territory.

We slide onto the seesaw of life not knowing what’s going to happen next or where our passions/dreams will take us. We know there’s only 2 motions, up and down. We’re bound to stay on if we hold on tight, but to what? We hold on to each other, to God, to Faith, to HOPE! And with that, the seesaw seems to float up no matter what comes our way.

Life certainly has jolted us these days, but we cannot let that weigh us down. No, we will no let those fears or worries become heavy. Down they GO!!

A night out with our favorite people lifted us up! We stayed at dinner for hours sipping, savoring, talking, and laughing. The only thing weighing us down after this night was our dessert. Hehe, and that’s probably a good thing! Winking smile

The car ride home we were at ease…..feeling UPLIFTED.

How do you stay UP on life?

Cheers,
LC

p.s.
The blog will be moving to a self hosted site later this week. Lots of messing around with it this week but we’ll get there. I may not be able to post as often, but that only means more time reading…..yea! thanks for hangin’ around with me!

This was posted yesterday and apparently has zero comments, which means that something is probably broken. But I'm hopeful you will see this anyway, because I absolutely LOVE this!  Your meal looks delicious, you and your man look adorable as always, and I wish you all the happiness in the world.

Just what I've been missing....a Cotter Crunch post!! Thanks for the 'uplifting' reminder. Although I would rather do without, those down moments in life remind me to appreciate to ups. I learned that lesson when Junior had his mouth surgery. Man, did I love him & squeeze him lots more when he came home.

MiDLiFe CrUiSeR said...

Did I mention reading your post, and licking the crumbs left from your meal off my computer screen is an "up" moment?

MiDLiFe CrUiSeR said...

I stay up on life by chewing other people's chewing gum wads I steal off of walls....say that with a mouth full of Bubbalicious!

OK, I'm thinking if I post one more comment, I can fool people into thinking you are hosting a giveaway!!! LOLOLOLOLOL!

Aaah, so glad you are feeling happy and uplifted in spite of life's inevitable curve balls, that's wonderful!  I try so hard to think positive, to do things for others (that is SO uplifting), to be in nature, to connect with friends and family, and to SMILE!  These are what uplifts me most <3 working on my spiritual health, emotional heath, as well as my physical health.   and relationship health!  so many beautiful facets of life that completely contribute to our upliftedness!  <3  have a beautiful day and keep smiling! xyx

LOVE this, Cotter!  Sometimes a mental and emotional break means going out and literally taking your mind off the seesaw entirely!  It's always the 'ride home' (sometimes metaphorically, sometimes literally) where I realize that my seesaw can be even, with God on the other side, giving me a huge, mischievous grin.  That's when I know I'm ready to take it on again.  :)

I can't wait to see the new site!

lindsay cotter said...

tiff, yours words are exactly what I was thinking. Did you read my mind? ;) But God is waiting for us to embrace him, amen to that! Hows your family and how are you?

So so so true - life is all about those ups and downs, all that learning that comes up with it, and all the celebrating that comes with learning to embrace the downs as well as the up up ups. I'm so glad last night was one of those "up" nights. Looks like my kind of evening, I must say!

jobo said...

Life is like a seesaw isn't it? Sometimes extreme ups and extreme downs but also somewhere in the middle. The teeter effect! I am glad you two are standing strong together and sticking with your faith for support and strength. I am always pulling for you two as you constantly inspire me with all that you do and for all that you strive for. And that meal, leisurely over hours and hours? Love it. Would love to do that with you one day when we hopefully finally meet! (and maybe even this Sept if the stars align!!)

Love this - and it's amazing how dinner with good friends or good company can really be uplifting. It's about surrounding ourselves with positive people.

so SO true! lately my trust and just ... letting GO has been so good for me! there have been MANY perspective building moments, too - that can be a powerful thing! having a partner at your side with that trust makes the up and down ride bearable :)

good luck with the transfer - can't wait to see you on the other side! <3

I think have a good partner in life is key too. What a blessing Kris. You have 2, basil and jason. hehe.

I am printing that quote right now.  So true!  Staying UP on life can be pretty tough at times, but if you focus on God, family, friends, blessings, etc., (as you always seem to do) those "downs" are much more manageable.

Trisha said...

Staying UP all the time is exhausting...unless you are doing it for the right reason and with the right things. My family and religion, and my wonderful body keep me going. Every day is a blessing! Thanks for reminding me :)

when i am feeling down it really is SO IMPORTANT to just realize that there are things in life i cannot control and just let GOD take over....and doing that is SUCH A RELIEF!
can't wait to see the new blog!

I so needed this post today. I am a so stressed/nervous about moving away and going to college (THIS SATURDAY!). I just want to do it so I can stop worrying so much about it. I have been talking to God constantly to get me through it. I know as long as I put my faith in Him and let him go to work, everything will work out just like it's supposed to. It's still not easy though!

Hope everything is ok!

That book -- I think it is changing my life. Imagine it as a book of empty pages and then when you pick it up He fills in what he needs us to know. Isn't that what it is like?

Today's was special to me -- I do that every morning after I hit snooze. I call it cuddling with God.

lindsay cotter said...

everything is okay. God's in control, just gotta let him do his thang, right?! sheesh. And yes, the devotional book is amazing. so healing!
