And poor Sadie, she went from my parents house (while we were in Portland), to this house (with 2 other dogs), and then tomorrow we will be switching homes and housesitting/dogsitting for yet another family. She’s really not sure what to think. But at least the dogs are welcoming her with open……bellies. haha.
Anyway, since we’re feeling quite nomadic these days our meals have been rather “odd.” Meaning, whatever is in the panty is what I’m making.
Not to worry, we did not forget to keep some Cotter staples with us.
Okay, back to my oddness.
So, the first night we got back from Portland we were pretty much empty handed. I had some wasabi seaweed snacks left over from the trip, some eggs, and some GF flour.
Can you guess what I did?
Yep, wasabi seaweed crepes.
Talk about ODD, but oh my, it was actually pretty darn tasty!!
Wasabi Seaweed Crepes
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp GF flour (I used coconut and potato mixed)
- 3 strips of wasabi seaweed OR you can use 1 sheet nori with 2 tsp wasabi powder or wasabi mustard
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 2- 3 tbsp milk or water
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- any other spices you like. I added some paprika, cause we love paprika!
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 egg
- goat cheese or white cheddar (optional)
- Sirracha Chili sauce to garnish.
Directions:
Combine your flour, milk/water, spices, egg, vinegar, and baking powder. Mix/beat well until smooth. Oil a pan and place on medium high heat. Add your seaweed strip to the bottom of the pan. Let them cook for a minute. Then add in batter. It will cook up quickly. Flip over once and cook on other side until golden brown. Place on plate and add cheese to topping. Microwave or broil for the last minute in order to melt cheese. Then add the secret sauce…..sirracha chili sauce!!
Odd? Yes. Delicious? Surprisingly Yes!
What’s the oddest thing you’ve made lately? Did it turn out to be delicious?
Hope so!
Cheers,
LC

this looks great!! what a great way to use seaweed
I want to try some of that seaweed. I will have to get some of that! I just did my first product review. Do you ever use Vega? That is what I reviewed. Hope you have a fun week. I have been missing Texas A LOT lately! Wish we lived in Austin or San Antonio!!

That looks definitely odd but surprisingly delicious! I haven't cooked/created much lately since we've kind of been in between jobs/homes/lifestyles...but I miss it! And I so often make crazy combinations - I think my taste bugs are whacked out and anything tastes great to me. ;) What a crazy week for you guys (and your dog!)...I hope you can enjoy the time and have fun house sitting!
OH my god. Those look so. good. I'm actually craving eggs and cheese lately, who am I. PLEASE explain to me what vegemite is?!
i have tried vega. I need to get used to it. The chocolate is the best. did you
like it?? Come back to austin! TX misses you.

That oddity looks NOMS! I'm picking some of this stuff up tomorrow!
oh awesome. we think alike! and vegemite is a VERY concentrated yeast extract
with b vitamins. Its SUPER STRONG! good for cooking though.

Oddest thing I've made lately: I can't think of anything that comes even close to what you posted! :)
Wasabi seaweed crepes! Whaaaaa! They look impressively delicious though.
I actually made another seaweed cake with your flour from twins bakery.
Delicious!! and right now, I am eating vanilla cashew biscotti. THis one is the
best so far! and the hubs and I both like biscotti to be hard so that we can dip
it in our tea or coffee.

Way to be creative!! And the nomad adventures sounds a little fun : ) Umm...I cant think of an odd food item at the moment. I am pretty boring in the foods I eat. Happy Tuesday Linds!
Love!
Katie : )
is that pup part DACHSHUND? :) looks like it... partly because that's what Basil always does when he wants belly rubs! :)
these crepes look tasty - I love my seaweed and may have to try these! I (sometimes, ha!) come up with some pretty good stuff when I am down to few ingredients. today's lunch was a quick socca crepe filled with beans + red pepper in the food processor, topped with salsa. a big pile of spinach topped with salsa was the "salad" to go with it! :)
You cook with whatever is in the PANTY?! That would make for some interesting meals ;)
Looks Luke that dog is quite welcoming, enjoy your housesitting!
I'm all about odd food! It sounds delicious to me! Sirracha makes everything better! I hope you two get some nice quiet down time.
Wow, that is an interesting combination. I love it! Those wasabi seaweed snacks are like crack. I love them
Yumm, these look great!! Hmm, I have made plenty of weird things (especially while in grad school), but I am having hard time thinking of one...lately it was throwing random toppings on a salad or a flatbread "pizza". Always tasted great, though!:)
wow interesting recipe. I love seaweed dishes. So good for you! :)
wasabi seaweed crepes...that just sounds amazing!!! I've made omelete wrapped in nori before, but not with wasabi seaweed. That is genius!!
The oddest thing I've made...hm, that's hard, because I make a lot of odd things. lol.
Wow! Hmm, I haven't made anything really odd lately - I guess I need to get on that! :)
I put a lot of weird things together, especially after I've been gone because I just have weird things left in my fridge!
I agree. sirrachi gives it that edge, haha.
yes, but you've eaten wild animal. thats so cool and UNIQUE!

Woo this is odd, but I am intrigued and want to try it :) I need to mix things up a bit with my food, I never try anything different! Thank you for the reminder to do so!
these are so funky! really they were good? i trust you, craziness!
you are reminding me of us and pet sitting.....it is kind of fun though :) love what you made. i love when i have strange ingredients and manage to come up with something amazing! good job :)
Mmm..that looks like pizza. :) LOL
How totally creative!! I llove it!
And Sadie looks like she is doing just fine with all the moving :D
Interesting. And you gotta have the chili sauce right?
That might be odd but it still sounds wonderful to me! And it looks great! Seriously, some of the best recipes come from nothing in the pantry... ;)
I think they look pretty darn delicious - but then again, the only thing I don't put Sriracha on is my oatmeal and if I could figure out how to put it on that, I probably would! I've never tried vegemite, but I've heard a lot about it... I'm not sure if I'm ready to give it a try just yet though. I'm more than a little afraid!
Looks good. :) I made waffles over the weekend and threw in some bananas that were going bad. It turned out delicious! :) Always fun to try something new.
Hmmm I don't think I have made anything TOO odd lately! Last year I didn't have butter to melt on my popcorn so I put pineapple juice and curry on it. It was tasty!
i LOVE pup pictures. too cute. dogs are the best at always bringing a smile to your face :) so the pics totally made my stomach growl...i got a bit more nervous whne i read what it was but i am willing to try anything so I would be up for trying that sometime. haha! i am always throwing whatever I have into a skillet and hoping for the best. luckily i have my dad's "taste" for food and I have not made too many terrible things (in my own humble opinion...haha!). have a wonderful day!
You always make me laugh!! I have eaten weird things like this I think....I do love salty things and seaweed on lots of things too!! Hahaha, this is cute actually!
xxoo
oh yes, I knew you'd like this recipe. Odd but so nourishing and flavorful!!

definitely the wrong person to ask... at least your 'odd' things look edible! mine inevitably look revolting but are actually amazing... honest! lately? tuna mashed with dry oats and a bit of natural yogurt... oh and tomato puree... and some gherkins might have also found their way in there...
oh yea, going to see that recipe for sure!!

I can't say I've ever had a crepe like that before!!! Interesting :) And I love the cute little longhaired dachshund friend Sadie has made :) So cute.
Awwww your puppies are adorable!!!
Hmm that sounds interesting, but I totally believe that it is delicious! I'm not sure I've made anything odd...I'm too plain jane with my food haha. :)
Okay lindz, here's my challenge for you. Make something out of seaweed this
week. You up for it?

WHAT are your dogs doing there?!?! :O :O :O
Well, I think I have to try around with wasabi more! I love its cold spiciness, but so far, I've only used it for sushi, or as an exotic substitute for mustard with a grilled piece of meat.
have you ever had tamago nigiri sushi - egg omelet over rice & seaweed. this is kind of like that! and you know me ... i'm all about the odd! the weirder the better, in my book! :)
Mmm... I love sirracha chili sauce!
Your poor dog.....oh, I bet sadie is happy to have you both back! Haha :)
oh I know you are the queen of wierd food, thats why I LOVE YOU! definitely need
to try that seaweed omelet. want to make it for me?
Lindsay

That really IS odd! I'd try yours...but I'm not sure that I'd make it myself! Ha!
Ha I don't think I've ever even had seaweed in my possession! The last randomly delicious thing I made involved pb + tempeh & some veggies on a sandwich. I had no idea the nut-butter could taste SO good with everything... ;)
My weird is usually inedible. I will usually eat it anyway. :D
i eat the unedible too, well because I just don't like to waste food I put
effort into. If its that bad, the hubs will still eat it. haha.
Lindsay

oh I know, nut butter goes with everything. and I must try that sandwich!

Oooo perfect! Since I JUST got those seaweed snacks :) Love the salty/ hot combination!
totally addicting and the spicier the better! right?
Lindsay

so creative, that looks AWESOME!!
Speaking of odd things and nori....
I use the untoasted nori sheets, spray them with braggs, smear them with peanut butter and sprinkle with gomasio.....fold it in half like a sandwich and then cut into bite size pieces with a scissor.
Um...yum.
I'm only sharing this because I have a feeling you might try it and I assure you you will like it.
I love the way your culinary brain works, those crisps look delish!
um ya, totally would try that. I ate cashew butter on nori sheets with romain
lettuce leaf and spicy ketchup as a snack the other day. no shame here.
