Southerners Like Their Tea

NOTE: just wanted to THANK YOU all for your kind words and encouragement from this weekend. The hubs race didn’t go as planned, and that's okay. I’ve got pictures to show and words to share. But for now, I will switch focus and stay positive. Here’s a little“afternoon tea” that hopefully leaves you feeling refreshed or at least interested. haha.

I’m a Texas girl at heart. Born and raised. The one thing I remember vividly about my childhood is summer time and sweet tea. My mom always had to have (and still does) a large dixie cup full of sweet tea and lemon by her side each afternoon under that blistering Texas sun. No matter where we were, we had to find a Dickie’s BBQ that served good ‘ol fashion sweet tea. Not in a bottle…..no way….no how. It had to be fresh from the pitcher. I never really got it. I just knew that was “her” thing. And come to find out, that was A LOT of southern women’s “thang.” The southern sweet tea fixation.

To this day, my tea of choice is of course Kombucha, but I am learning to embrace my southern roots and thanks to the NEW Lipton iced tea campaign, I am able to do just that. In my own kind of “southern” way.
P1010069
P1010070
By participating in this campaign, I got the chance try out six Lipton Iced Tea flavors. The fan favorite flavors, Green Tea with Citrus and Iced Tea with Lemon, as well as two new flavors—Iced Tea with Pomegranate Blueberry and Green Tea with Passionfruit Mango. They also have two naturally flavored and preservative-free diet flavors—Diet Green Tea with Citrus and Diet Green Tea with Watermelon.
  P1010074P1010073 P1010072
The hubs and I tasted them all. He loves fruity tea so naturally he choose the pomegranate blueberry and his favorite. I am not used sweetened tea, it was definitely a little more sugar than I am used to but still, the flavors were refreshing. Watermelon Green tea was a good combo.
Can’t go wrong with watermelon in my opinion.
 P1010078P1010077
All flavors are of course GLUTEN FREE, preservative free, and 100% natural. I admire Lipton for reaching out to the consumers and reinventing new flavors that are tried and tested by ….once again, the CONSUMER. Not many companies do that these days. Ya know?

Oh and another cool thing, LIPTON is partnering with PANDORA internet radio for this summer-long program. They are encouraging consumers to “express individuality through their tea and music preferences.” Stations include Lipton Pop, Lipton Country, Lipton Rock, and Lipton Hip-Hop. I turned on the Rock just for kicks. Lots of new music to add to my collection. Again, thoroughly impressed with how CONNECTED Lipton is with their consumers.

Wanna get connected yourself? Check out their Facebook page or  follow them on Twitter.

So now my whole Southern Sweet Tea perception has changed. Actually, its EXPANDED. I am ready to embrace my Southern Roots……LIPTON STYLE!

What flavor would you try?

Cheers,
LC

p.s.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Gen-Yknot on behalf of Lipton and received Lipton product samples and a subscription to Pandora One to facilitate my candid review. Gen-Yknot also sent me a promotional item to thank me for my time. And if you’ve made it this far through the post, let me know. I’ve got an extra coupon to send to someone. You just have to leave a clever comment first. haha! I’ll choose someone this week.

Yum! I wish I grew up in TX so I could have some REAL tea! The Lipton tea sounds great thought plus it's GF--bonus!! Have a great day :)

i have fond memories of the sun tea my mom used to make when i was a kid.  tea-bags, water, & solar power = "green" beverage (before it was trendy!)
and this tea-bag would love a coupon for some tea!

lindsay!  so sorry you guys did not have the weekend you were supposed to have...........i am not too big of a fan of teas though if i were to choose one it would be the fruity variety.  hope you have a good day and know i am thinking of you.....and the hubby

Watermelon tea sounds very interesting, I'd love to try it! I love tea but as a florida girl have weened myself off the super sweet variety and now I stick with half and half or just all unsweetened!

jobo said...

I love coupons ;-) And tea! Great review of it too, I have tried it before and it is really good, very authentic. And Lipton, such an old school brand!
As for your husband's race, I'm sorry it didn't go as planned, but everything happens for a reason and I'm sure whatever happened, his next race will be better for it. XO!

Wow that looks GOOD! I think I'd be all over that blueberry/pom flavor. It's so hot here now some iced tea sounds divine!

Ohh my goodness I remember sweet tea from when I was living in San Antonio. SO GOOD. I'd never had it before and it completely changed my life haha.
(I love lipton iced tea! Hope I win :D)

I lived in Texas for about 6 years growing up, and those are considered the glory days. Playing outside all day with friends, and those friendly, friendly people! I'm not a tea drinker, but I sure did love this post!

Dairyfreebetty said...

I've always been curious about what "sweet tea" is!  You can get iced tea here which is super sweet tea, ususally from a powdered form.  But I know in the states if you order ice tea, it comes unsweetened!!  funny how crossing the border can change something like ice tea! hehe

Heather @ Where's the Beach said...

Cool, I haven't checked out their products in ages to be honest. I really hated sweet tea actually. My aunt would literally put a cup of sugar into a pitcher. Yuck.

Skinnyrunner said...

my husbands from texas and i didnt really get what the big deal with sweet tea was until i went there... it is SWEET!  and mcdonalds sell it!  i thought that was crazy.

Dorry said...

I'm with you on the sweetness/sugar factor. You know I love my Kombucha, too. :) But I think I'd try the citrus flavor. Sounds refreshing! Hope y'all had easy travel on the way back to Austin. Let's chat again soon. Love ya, Linds!

I'm sorry the race didn't go as planned.  I hope you'll update us later.  And we all need a little something in the summer to sip on.  I'm loving my Nuun right now because it's not sweet.  I'm glad you've found your "thang"!

Rachelle Wardle said...

mmm I love Lipton Iced Tea and the watermelon flavor sounds amazing.  I am sorry about the bad race.   Stay strong and know that you have so many people supporting you and the hubs!  You are amazing and if anyone can stay positive and push through the bad times it is definitely you!

Cortney Martin said...

Sorry about the rough race for James.  I LOVE Kombucha tea....it's my go-to on bad days, when I feel "off", or want to treat myself.  It's amazing, but expensive. I know in theory you can make it yourself but I think I'll pass on that, thank you!!

Heather said...

I LOVE sweet tea.  I had never heard of it until I lived in Georgia for two years - my mom always made unsweetened iced tea (ahh to be from the North).

I have broke my sweet tea habit, but once in a while it is fantastic.  I would probably gravitate towards the regular tea with lemon.

natalie said...

Bummer about the race, those are never fun...

The tea looks delish, and I unfortunately have no idea where to find sweet tea in Washington... YET.

Oh Lindsay, I'm so sorry to hear that your husbands race didn't go as wished! Just don't give up, okay? All our ways are a little stony sometimes, but also smooth at other times! The smooth times will definitely come! :)

I love tea, but I'm not used to readily made bottle tea drinks, and I tend to have problems with the sugar. (This is also what makes kombucha difficult for me - I've tried it several times and liked it, but I tend to get irritable and hungry from the sugar it contains. Sniff.) Anyway anyway anyway, the watermelon green tea would be totally mine! I must try to find that one over here, but I'm afraid I can only get the regular lemon or peach flavors. *sigh*

Lindsay, somehow I missed your update about James' race...Now I'm worried! Is everything okay? I'll keep you both in my prayers. <3

I would love to try the watermelon green tea! What a unique combination!

LivelyKitchen said...

I like my tea unsweet - but Dickies makes some good unsweet too, especially tasty in those yellow cups!

At all of our family gatherings we have a pitcher of both sweet and unsweet and our family is very split on their preferences.  It's like the coke pepsi debate....

Heather @ Dietitian on the Run said...

I used to love all of the Snapple flavored teas in college! It was before I drank "hot" tea, so it was a good transition. But it was also before I realized what a winter/spring in Pennsylvania felt like...haha, my aversion to hot tea didn't last long. ;) Apparently NM isn't very "southern", because Sweet tea is one thing I've never gotten used to. Just not my style!

Katie said...

Sorry about the race.  I'd love to hear about it when you get the chance and some distance.

I got to the end of the post - I do that kind of thing in my blogs sometimes too.  Stick in random lines to "catch" the skimmers.  Its a little private game I like to play.  ;)

Stephanie said...

Lindsay! I JUST had my FIRST KOMBUCHA! It was a GT's Cosmic Cranberry... and the taste is fine, though the smell was objectionable. :) Question, however---should I be nauseated afterward? Not terribly, but just a touch like I had something that had gone off...?

Hooray for Lipton and all that, but this was just *way* too important not to discuss. :D

audrey said...

hey...  funny you  write about sweet tea today . we just had dinner with frineds (they live part time here in victoria). she is a southern gal through and through and always cooks from her southern living recipes!!  tonight we had sweet tea, chicken marinated in a sweet tea concoction and a yummy rice dish cooked with...you guessed it...sweet tea., pecans and peaches.  and carrots with an orange marmalade glaze.
she drinks coke all the time, even in the morning! she insists it's a southern thing!  her and her hubs are good people.

I know that the race didn't go as planned, but what was it that happened?  Glad you've made it home safely though, or are at least en route home!  Wish James good luck next week at Eagle Man and hopefully he'll beat one of my good friends who is racing there ; )

Sweet tea used to be one of my favorite things ever. When I went to college in GA my friend, who was from NC introduced it to me and I couldnt stop. I became a sweet tea addict. My gram used to make it for us when we were little, but it was a little different. Ive since kicked my sweet tea habit due to the sugar content but honestly it holds a special place in my heart=) I tried making some with black tea and some stevia and its not too bad! Curbs my cravings anyways!

I think the watermelon tea would be my choice. I agree, you cant go wrong with watermelon. Esp. in the summer time!

(Countdown to Austin! Im getting so excited...I need to get out of LA asap!)
