What’s Your Reason?

Consider this a late “Motivation Monday” post. This topic has been on my mind for a while, so why not share, right?

What’s your reason for blogging? What’s your reason for reading and contributing to other blogs? Do you even need a reason?

My two cents…..no, you don’t need a reason. Blogging is a form of expression. Your own personal expression, and its free!

I Blog Because…….

It’s a way to share my passions- cooking, baking, supporting the hubs, running, fitness, and more!

But most importantly,…….it has given me virtual pen pals, friendships, encouragement, and great support from other readers, bloggers, etc. That my friends is PRICELESS!

Okay, so let me hear it! So……..tell me why you blog? Why do you read blogs? I know you have a reason, and I hope part of that reason is for YOU!

aaahhh... I LOVE this... I blog for me, it is definitely a creative outlet for me! It's something I look forward to, because of the supportive, awesome and REAL community of friends I have made! I read blogs for years before starting my own, and would lurk and sometimes comment... and because I started to get to know some of these bloggers, I wanted to be a part of it and contribute as well!

I have always had a creative outlet in the kitchen, and now I get to share it! I love when I get positive feedback from people who make my recipes, and from those who tell me They Learn from me!! I love that!

I also want to tell you AGAIN how happy I am to "know" you... I love your blog and the daily inspiration it brings me. I also love the photo of you with the... egg poacher? is that what it is? It always makes me smile :)

Loved this! <3 It would take an entire post for me to answer your question! lol!

Though I really really love blogging. Especially when I catch my husband reading it. Makes me smile <3

I mainly blog because of the friendships that I have made. I LOVE the people that I interact with on a daily basis.

I love this post, and I posted something similar ages ago :D. Recently, I blog because it's MY outlet - where my family doesn't see my mini-meltdowns, where I can complain, where I can laugh about the un-laughable. I blog to be accountable to myself. I blog because I love the community it's brought into my life. Soooo many reasons!!

Dorry said...

Love this! I blog for many of the same reasons. I love connecting with people who have similar interests and learning from those who are interested in different things than I am. And I keep blogging because it's a great part of my day. I couldn't agree more that blogging has introduced me to some great people and I consider you one of my dear friends! :)

i definitely started blogging because i was learning so much from other people's posts that i felt guilty always taking and never giving. now i do it because of the relationships/connections i've made. and i feel like i have learned more in the year that i've been blogging than any other time in my life :) and it's nice to have people care about the silly things that i do...like running and eating :)

Momswimbikerun said...

I blog to document our lives for my family. I also blog to show that a VERY BUSY mom can find the time to fit in exercise almost every day and to hopefully inspire just 1 person!

I blog because I get great inspiration from all you wonderful bloggers out there!!!! =D

Great post and I agree blogging is a form to express yourself, challenge yourself, and inspiration! I love being challenged to do things differently and learning more about myself along the journey. xoxo

What a great question! I think my answer changes depending on the day :) (and sometimes I really don't know why I do it!).
I started my blog for my clients---to stay connected to them in between weekly meetings. Once I started reading others' blogs, the reason became bigger---I love connecting with people who have similar passions. Most of my in-person friends have no interest at all in healthy eating/living. Blogging has just totally expanding my world!

Heather @ Where's the Beach said...

I love the way you set this up. Fantastic. I am SO glad you love to blog and we got to "meet" through ourblogs. I blog for many of the same reasons: the unbelievable inspiration, the awesome people, motivation, support, to share my passions (food, exercise).

Aryn Carruthers said...

this is a great question indeed. I blog first and foremost as a writing outlet, to bring my thoughts onto "paper" as it were. That's how it started. Then it was my way of sharing my weight loss journey and food ideas, and now I'm so inspired by healthy living and lifestyle that I want to incorporate that into my blog as well. I enjoy reading other blogs that can inspire me to live better, be better and try new things. Yours has done just this. I tried making your protein bar recipe yesterday and it is just grand. Thanks for sharing!

caroline said...

I read blogs to learn about running and others journey..get inspiration and motivation. I write mine to keep track of my journey and to document these experience, maybe one day my boys will be curious about why their mom ran and why they went to so many races!! getting to know people is the best part for sure, the support and the friendship is wonderful. I feel like there are peple out there who get it..they don't say WHY.

Angie said...

I blog because it makes me accountable for my runs! Plus I love getting to connect with others who share the same interests as I do. I LOVE reading blogs especially fitness and running ones, they are highly motivating for me to get out there and do my best! :)

I love reading what other people have to say. Their great ideas and passions, which is why I like to blog. It challenges me to open, honest, and real. Not only with myself but with other people too!

Lindsay, I LOVED this post & all the pictures! :)

I blog because I think it's fun, it's a great way to keep track of recipes and I really enjoy sharing my life with others. I love reading other blogs, and I think it's great when friendships are formed. I know some people make money from it, but not me! I just do it because I like it. Also, my husband is in graduate school, so it's nice for me to have a "project" to work on when he's working on all of his!

Jess said...

Well would you look at that, I blog for pretty much the exact same reasons as you ('cept I blog for me, not you per se, LOL)! You're right, it's totally a form of expression, a place that's all yours to do whatever you want with it and at the end of the day, its yours to be proud of. I think that's my favorite - I built it, it's mine, I'm proud. And I've got super fantastic virtual friends to prove it. I'd also say I blog to motivate not just myself, but to motivate others to live a fit and healthy, happy life. I feel SO good if I've motivated someone else along the way...like my teeny tiny way of "giving back" in a weird way.

marathonmaiden said...

i love your reasons! i blog to stay in touch with other runners. i don't know enough of them in real life!

I love your reasons for blogging. Mine started as a way to keep track and log my recipes and ideas for recipes. Then I realized how much motivation it gave me to try new recipes and I think that is why I have stuck with it. Brad (boyfriend) takes the pictures for my blog and it is a really fun hobby that we get to share now. I read blogs because everyone's stories and recipes are such wonderful motivation and inspiration, the penpals/ friends have been a bonus I never expected to be so great. I comment because I want people to know how awesome I think they are!

It's an awesome creative outlet to experience more fully your life! Then, when you get in the community aspect of it...there are no words.
I read blogs for inspiration, laughs, meal ideas...sometimes a certain blogger just "captures me" I'm like, "I love them!"

Its hard to explain to people who don't "know" I guess.

Suzanne said...

Those are all amazing reasons to blog! I love that you are a blonde/brunette like me ;) You're awesome girlie!!
I started blogging because I wanted to have a way to show my clients that living a healthy and normal life was doable for anybody. I wanted to show them that there are ways to incorporate healthy living in to ANY lifestyle. I've now found such a supportive community that has become an awesome way to gain motivation, get new ideas, and feel like we are all human. I use it as a great way to keep myself inline, and encourage others to do the same. :)

kate@ahealthypassion said...

I totally agree with the reasons you blog, I use my blog as a way to document my life, push myself to follow my dreams, and take some time to reflect on each day. I read blogs for inspiration, its awesome to see women who have the same passions as you expressing themselves.

Lovely post! I was just thinking about this! :) I blog because it is just an incredible community of people that support, inspire, and encourage each other! I've learned so much about food, running, motherhood. I love it! And I get to meet so many cool peeps. Like you! :)

That egg poacher pic is such a crack up! Thanks for putting it up again. I am STILL shopping for a bikini like that =D

I started blogging so I could stop bugging all of my non-running facebook friends with my daily training status posts. Now I think they are wondering if I am still alive and well. lol

So... I found out that I love to get feedback from other runners / writers and also learn something new at every blog I visit. It's nice to know other nuts in the world like me. =D

I look forward to the day our picture is up here too! :) I blog because I'm passionate about my eats and my health, and I've always loved the camaraderie and closeness I could see in other blogger friendships, and I wanted to get in on that too. I wouldn't trade my bloggy friendships for anything! xo

great question Lindsey - I've been blogging for years and I think I started it to make myself accountable with my running. In the course of those years I have made such great friends and had such a wonderful time running with them that I think now I do it to keep my friends - present and future - posted about where I'm at and what I'm doing

such a great post!!! i blog because like you said it keeps me stay true to myself and challenges me to try new things too! (like a green monster! and running!)... natalie hopkins said...

I blog because I'm a stay at home mom and crave some kind of adult interaction!!

OK, I'm kidding, but that is an added bonus. I blog for the same reasons you do - I like to find people who are better at what I'm doing [that is not hard, ha!] and 'pick their brain' in a sense. I also find it motivating to read about different ways of life, that make me think outside the box a bit. I like to 'get to know' different bloggers, even if they live forever and a day away!

Siobhan said...

You know what's funny-- I have been asking this question to myself the last few days!

I love that you can grow so much from reflecting on what you love about life, running, and all of your favourite hobbies. Being able to put your thoughts out to the world and not have a fear of anyone hating what you have to say gives you confidence and allows you to love yourself even more.

I also love reading about the fun things that my blogger friends have found and the tips that they have to offer!

Jen @ She said. She said. said...

I blog for many reasons. I like to get my opinions out into the universe even if no one reads them. Sometimes, i just want to be hear, ya know?
I also like the creative aspect. I love all things food and fitness, but it isn't my full-time job. having a blog gives me an outlet to talk about my passions. It's also been a great way to keep connected with friends and family. Plus, I've made so many new friends!

Holly said...

Love this post - it's so uplifting :)
I blog because I love getting others opinions on things- and getting advice from people. Love the virtual friends- like you said :)
I also love getting new recipes, WORKOUTS :), and just ideas in general.

I like to read blogs more than I like to write on my own. I love to learn new things and blogs are full of new things! I read blogs to make friends and get new recipes, to get running advice and hear the Word applied to normal people's lives. I really enjoy reading blogs.
I write on my blog to express myself. Yes, I have friends and family far away who tell me they read it, but mostly it is just for me to gather my thoughts and pictures.
Your blog is in my top five "must-reads" by the way. :)

Katherine: Unemployed said...

one word: community!
great thoughts here and something all bloggers need to reflect on

Kelsey said...

my reasons are quite similar. first and foremost, i love to share my little piece of the world..or at least the world in which i see it, with everyone. i think the driving force behind WHY i created a blog as an outlet versus other sources, was because i am super creative and always felt like the things i created were under appreciated. i wanted to show everyone i knew what i would make or bake or create that i felt it would go to waste not to document it in some way. when i found out about blogging i knew it was the perfect way i could archive a lot of my memories!

lastly, the connection ive made with people such as lovely bloggers like yourself, has been an extra special surprise that keeps me on the path to chasing my dreams and hope and passions <3

I blog for basically the same reasons as you -- except my fiance isn't a pro triathlete. I love meeting new people on the internet. I feel as if we form a nice circle of blogger buddies. They have shown me support through some really difficult times lately. They mean as much to me as people in my everyday, face-to-face life. I love it.

I love blogging! Seriously it makes me Soooo unbelievably happy to get comments and see my blog stats rising each day. And I've been reading all of these health blogs for almost 3 years (ever since I got really into health and fitness/nutrition!) so it's so much fun to finally connect with the people I've been idolizing for so long! I honestly LOVE every single aspect of blogging (even the four+ hours on the computer each day aspect!)

As a teacher and artist, I think I blog about food to teach about healthy cooking and for an excuse to be creative with what I eat. Sometimes it shocks me how people don't know how to eat healthfully, and are surprised by the various illnesses they have. I want to be able to help people focus on eating a less processed diet.

I'm looking forward to your package in the mail!

Kath said...

I read blogs for interest and inspiration. Some blogs I frequently read and comment are those of people I like personally (as far as I know them via blogging). When I first started blogging, sharing interests was the main motive, but it's gotten more. I've "met" people I really like, and I want to gt to know them better and keep contac with them. This is my main motivation now, also for commenting on other people's blogs. Another thing is that blogging keeps me accountable and helps me to go on with my healthy living journey.

Caitlin said...

Oh wow you really WERE thinking on the same wavelength as me yesterday! :)

Blogging has taught me so much, opened up my world to many things I never knew about (running, green smoothies, photography) and so many things I never knew I NEEDED. I have met some of my dearest friends through this - despite if we have ever actually "met" in person. I've definitely come into my own a lot this year and I have this community to thank for it. It's amazing to just connect with others in this way. Truly nothing like it.

And speaking of...let's meet up SOON!

Heather @ Dietitian on the Run said...

Ah, its about time someone put this question out there!

I Started blogging so that I could get comfortable with my "writing" being public (i.e. I could get experience writing, eventually do Freelance projects, and eventually use my voice to educate the public on nutrition/health). So, CHECK in that department! I still blog because I find motivation/inspiration through the community of health bloggers; because it has introduced SO many new foods and recipes, and makes me Want to be creative in the kitchen; because I have unexpectedly made great friends, and created some great "professional" opportunities! I keep going because I can't imagine my life right now without all of the above. :)

This is a really great topic as I do think some people blog for the wrong reasons. But I love blogging especially for the reasons you mentioned above. When I moved to CA, I knew no one. Thanks to blogging, I've met some of the best people who I now consider my friends. Have a great rest of the week!

natalie said...

I read blogs for ideas and inspiration and the topics vary from casual fitness, trail running, yoga, healthy lifestyles and a few that simply fit into "just because I like them".

I started blogging when I was unhappy with my career and saw a layoff pending. At first it gave me a way to connect with people when I wasn't around them during the day...saving my sanity. Eventually I found some great friends and a support system that has come to mean so much to me as I have moved on to another stage in my career and life.

I've only recently started blogging... but I really do enjoy it. Sometimes I'm a bit nervous to put myself out there, but I just have to remind myself that I do it for me. I like documenting things and especially love how it makes me more accountable with my training. I love food and sharing about it and I love the sense of community and support in the blogging community (especially runners).
I also think it will be neat for my family and I years down the road, to go back and read about things that we've done.

I started reading blogs purely by accident and then got completely hooked because I love to read about food, fitness, and other people's lives. I started blogging because I felt I had something to contribute to the whole healthy living blog family. It has become my creative outlet. Meeting my husband and seeing how much he loved my food encouraged me to cook but blogging recipes has encouraged me to be even more creative with my cooking and to find ways to make the things I love more healthy. It's allowed me to be "real" with a bigger audience. I've always found that I'm much more articulate with the written word, then speaking my heart on the spot. For me, articulating my passions, my love, my fears, and my thoughts, have become possible only through blogging.
