Getting in my "fun-day"

I survived, the weekend that is. It was actually pretty Laborious but hey, that's what happens when your a contract employee as well as self employed. haha! I did manage to carve out a "fun-day" this weekend. Gotta follow my home girl Cyndi Laupers to have my "fun-day, my I don't have to run day" (well, the Bangles originally sang it but I like Cyndi's version better!).

So Sunday I took advantage of sunshine, new friends, new finds, and new experiments. Yes, I am a geek, fun to me is experimenting in the kitchen. It all started off with a point to point run (ya, did end up running, sorry Cyndi). The hubs and I did the point to point drop. I love this, he drives to the gym with his bike in the car and rides from there. I then get to run to the gym (4-5 miles), lift weights, and pick up the car from the gym to drive home.....GENIUS!! Such a great day to get out for a run or ride. Then I got home and flavored up my second batch of kombucha. Get excited!
This time I brewed it with a lemon ginger tea and added a little mango juice to my bottle. Lemon Mango Flavor rocked!

I also made a pomegranate flavor, which the hubs liked a lot! Okay okay, enough "booch" talk, lets get to the best part of the day. A fun meet up at the Whole Foods Headquarters downtown with these lovely ladies.
Dorry and her fiance (Billy "Bee") were in town for a wedding and I was thrilled to get to meet with her. I also got to me Lauren who was just about to take off back to Cali for school. We had a great time hitting up the juice bar and chatting away. I think Billy loved being the only guy with 3 girls as well. Lucky guy, eh?

Dorry, Lauren, and Myself. Check out the weirdo staring us down in th background. haha!
After some good social time, it was back to the kitchen..........

A few weeks ago I was contacted by CSN stores about reviewing one of their products. I was thrilled because I've actually been dying to get one of their dehydrators. I decided to go with the NESCO dehydrator and Snack machine.

Well, its arrived Saturday, just in time to play with it on Sunday! My first trial experiment was really with anything I could find in my freezer and fridge. This what I came up with.

Frozen okra from my friends garden and frozen tropical fruit
I thawed them out for a bit, sliced them up,and threw them on my trays. In the dehydrator they went on 135F for 6 hours. Another experiment where I had to wait, at least it was only part of a day, not weeks like kombucha!

frozen produce ready to suck air, haha.
Anyway, 6 hours later and I had some yummy snacks! This dehydrating thing is FABULOUS! Love my NESCO, it was super easy to clean and very quiet while dehydrating.

Okra chips and chewy dried fruit!!
Can't wait to try out more recipes. The hubs is begging me to make fruit roll ups. I'm down with that!

Well, its pouring down rain and I watching re-runs of Glee. Life is good! Hope you carved out a fun-day this weekend.

Cheers,
