Farm Fresh

Two steps forward, one step back......story of my life here. I feel like its taken so long to get back into the groove of things since returning from CA. I love traveling but I hate the aftermath of returning home, bugger!
Anyway, I did manage to get to our neighborhood farmers market on Sunday to grab us some farm fresh goodness. We always buy the peaches they have (AMAZING), but this time around something else caught my eye. Grass-fed organic beef tamales (gluten free) and fresh grown okra. Two new items that I just had to try out.

Side note: The lady who sold me the tamales also had pork tamales and ground chicken, which I plan on buying next week. Yippee!

So, dinner last night was easy as pie. Warm the tamales, cover in homemade salsa, slice some peaches, and steam the okra (seasoned). Was it good? No, it was GREAT! The flavors of the tamales blended so well and had a nice kick to it. They weren't greasy or heavy, just right! The peaches just melt in your mouth and the okra just makes my lips pucker up with joy (if that even makes sense). But the best was it all came from our hard working farmers! There is something special about eating the foods grown or handmade by your "neighbor." Its a feeling of support, hard work, and love that goes into it. Is that cheesy enough for you?

As I sit here now, I am kicking myself for not buying more okra. I could have pickled it!! At least we have some peaches left. Maybe some grilled peaches with fish tonight??? Sounds good to me.

Happy almost Wednesday!
Cheers,
LC

P.S.
Tropical Traditions kindly offered my blog to do a giveaway for the Coconut PB. You all game for that? If so, I'll post it this week.

LOVE tamales! Some neighbors back home in Anchorage would invite the block over for tamale-making parties. Good memories...

Props for eating okra. I can't eat it myself. Probably due to years of being exposed to the boiling of the vegetable which led to slimy okra. Yuck!

I'm definitely game for a coconut PB giveaway!

I LUV tamales! I make my own, they are so simply (I have short cuts, traditional tamales can be time consuming!). And most are gluten free! How was that okra? I never had it cooked well, last time I had it, it was super gummy, but I know some people prepare it differently.

I love grilled peaches! Great on fish, great on arugula salads, etc. I'm jealous of having fresh produce like that.

I have so many peaches! I've never considered grilling them. Some of mine are definitely ending up as peach salsa.

Hey Lindz - I have a bunch of home grown okra from my backyard organic garden. If you're interested, I'll share! I've been at a loss of what to do with it so after I clip it from the stalk, it goes straight to the freezer.
