You are Affirmed

Today I write to write. Not to post a recipe, a workout, a review. I write to affirm.

Affirm what?

af·fir·ma·tion

–noun
1. the act or an instance of affirming; state of being affirmed.
2.the assertion that something exists or is true.
3..confirmation or ratification of the truth or validity of a prior judgment, decision, etc.

I am a person who lives and breathes affirmation. I look for it everywhere. In my work, my faith, my abilities, my relationships, etc. And while this is all fine and dandy, there is one affirmation that is lacking.

Myself

DSCF0787

The hubs says is makes you more confident, and in this “AH-HA” moment, I agree!

Affirmation to oneself can do wonders, if we let it.

MENTAL TOUGHNESS, DETERMINATION, UNCEASING PASSION!

And by affirming ourselves, we can affirm others.

affirmation_kit
I recently discovered this affirmation kit over on THIS blog and thought it was GENUIS!

I think I just might make one myself. Maybe 31 one cards, one for each day of the month.

Scramble them up, and pull out one each morning.

Hmm, I might need some affirming………

P1010112
Nah, I’m in! Are you?

Cheers to  “AH-HA” Affirmations!

I LOVE this concept my dear. I may have to follow your lead on the 30-days of affirmations. I think we all deserve to focus on "me" a little bit more than we probably do. We're often so busy helping boost others up that we forget about ourselves sometimes.

I love this idea, and the affirmation kit is so smart. A daily reminder of what could be would be nice! Great post, girl!

Oh how perfect is the timing of this post?!  I love it!   "MENTAL TOUGHNESS, DETERMINATION, UNCEASING PASSION!"  That is going on my vision board.  :)

That kit is so cool. I am with you - very much need to affirm myself.

Allie said...

I def. need to affirm myself in a lot of things right now, even if I dont want to be honest with myself.

Lisakthrives said...

I'm all about the affirmations...and I think it really helps to say it out loud, see it in writing, and contemplate it. Like, the more senses you use, the more it "soaks in" to your brain/mind/body :)

I love how confident and care free guys are.. I need more affirmation in my life!

Awesome post!!! That little box of affirmations is an awesome idea!!!! :D

Abby said...

It's like the love languages... I'm totally a "words of affirmation" girl! If I don't get affirmation, I don't feel loved! I'll give you some affirmation, k? THANK YOU for being such a constant source of support in my life! It's so nice to know that I have a friend out there who truly cares about me and is interested in my life! You are wonderful and I'm thankful to God for you  :)

Lindsay said...

This is a wonderful idea!  It's tough to find affirmation in oneself, and that's where we need it the most.  Thanks for sharing this!

oh wow, I love that affirmation box and think you should totally do it. If I were crafty, I would too ;-) I need affirmations to myself too, I am all about it outwardly, but for me OF me? Notsomuch. Example? My running struggles. I am the first to call myself a failure and that's the worst thing I can do.

Stephanie said...

I'm sorry if I'm being slow here---how are you *not* self-affirming now? Have I just been reading the Lindsay vibe totally differently? How will you behave differently when you *are* self-affirming as opposed to your usual?

It's so hard to be profound when you're confused. :D Sorry for all the questions, and for the all the apologies--I'm Canadian. ;)

Sable@SquatLikeALady said...

This looks like a beautiful idea Lindsay!!! I love it. My box may not be as pretty as everyone else's ;-) but I am IN!

Wendy said...

A few other ideas with affirmations:

*I have a set of colorful ones on my mirror.  I read them when I'm brushing my teeth and if I happen to consciously look in the mirror.  I feel it reflects the affirmation back, and makes me deal with it! :-)

*I keep affirmations in my wallet.  I dunno why, it just feels best.

*I used to keep affirmations on my dashboard- again- eyes glance there for speed and other info. scanning...it gets the affirmation in the brain a bit more.

*I have a tree of affirmations and goals on my fridge- all pretty colors... why?  Tree= grounding and solid... affirmations/goals = leaves and expansion....

*You can buy the photo cube that is blank and put 6 positive reminders in it.  I have one of those on my desk at work/school and have made it for others.  Such friendly reminders that appear in my cube include: The journey is the prize.; Breathe./Rehydrate./Refocus.; Si, se puede.  There are three others, but I forget them.... and I need to change them out!

Peace!

Those are awesome! I can always use a positive mental boost. :)

LOL! oh S, I feel like it comes and goes in waves. So this was a good reminder
for me to stay focused. Does that makes sense? When like throws so many curve
balls our way, I tend to lose that affirmation instead of making it stronger. So
I am FED UP with the excuses and ready to reaffirm this a**! haha.

Cute idea! I used to save fortune cookie papers and Dove candy wrappers with sweet quotes on them. I feel like this is along those same lines :)

Kris said...

I love this, Linds. and I love you!!

I have been blessed with an abundance of (too much??)  confidence, and even lately with my physical challenges it has not waned... instead it is what gets me through, I think.

a daily affirmation is something I most definitely could use, however... to give me additional focus. <3

Amanda@Runninghood said...

What a "well worth my time reading" post!  Thank you for this.  So useful for my day today and life in general.  I need to do more of this.  I used to write these things on paper and put them on my mirror or have them in my journal.  They really help to set the stage for my day/week, etc.

lindsay cotter said...

Lindsay, thanks for the link! That kit is perfect. I try hard to state affirmations frequently to myself throughout the day, but...sometimes it can get tough!  Mind gets drudged down in the small things, that in the end, really don't matter!

Our whole lives we are told not to brag, show off, act conceited, etc. & in an effort to fit in & stay in the lines, it's easy to get away with mediocrity. Now I wonder how we would all shine if we opened the box we put ourselves in & allowed ourselves to be great! We are divine creations. Capable of tremendous things, blessed with a spirit and a body. So thankful to be alive!

I think we all could use some self affirmations.  It's sometimes hard to do when you're trying to be humble at the same time.  But there is a balance.  If we are not confident in ourselves, we can't be of service to anyone else.  Pride and self loathing are similar in that they both cause us to overly focus on ourselves.  Thanks for the inspiring thoughts today.
