A “Whoa Nelly” Wednesday

Come on, you’ve heard that phrase before. Right? I grew up on it. My mom would always yell say it to me.

“Whoa Nelly Lindsay……”

What does that mean? Why Whoa Nelly? I’ll tell you.

Apparently it's an equestrian phrase meaning: “Hold your horses!” Or better yet: "Wait a minute! This is a lot of work! Let's slow down and take things a little at a time”

Well today I gave the hubs a Whoa Nelly! He’s started to pack for his next couple weeks of racing and I thought, whoa…didn’t you just race that race? Nope, that was last year. Again, I thought, whoa…..you mean a year has already gone by? You mean we’re already half way through this year?

WHOA NELLY!

You mean my nieces and nephews are already 1, 3, and 5 years old?
Weren't they just born yesterday?

You mean the hubs and I both getting closer to 30?
We still look cool, right?
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You mean we haven’t “gotten it all together” yet?
Whoa Nelly…..Uh, no….far from it. But you gotta just smile and roll with it, right?

You mean it’s already another WIAW?t
Jen, I think we had the same day. Empty plates but happy bellies!

Whoa Nelly….the day slipped by but I managed a few pics.
I was half way through this bowl before I realized I needed to take a picture.
At least I saved the topping, right?

And dinner tonight?? Well another whoa Nelly (just hold your horses). I’m not sure what to make quite yet.

to be determined……..

Are you having a whoa nelly day? A whoa nelly year? I hate to say it, but its true. The older I get, the more time just starts to fly by…....way too fast.

I need a moment to breathe, to smile, to cherish, to enjoy.

And so I will.
Smile
Cheers to the here and now!

I totally get you on this one. I feel like everything is flying by and we aren't getting the chance to enjoy it. We are going to work on that!

As for breakfast...I always save the top for last! It's the best part!

You mean like when I looked at my calendar and said to myself, "Holy... there's only ELEVEN full days of school left?????"  Normally it cannot come soon enough, but knowing this is our last year with our principal..... I'm savoring each walk through the hall, each crazy exam day, every request for the bathroom, and more!

17 June will be here soon enough... though it's hard to believe it IS June!

Peace.

Whoa Nelly is RIGHT! Seriously, how is it already June?? I got hired by lululemon in FEBRUARY!? Seems like last month. When we lived in Belize, time went by sooooo slowly. Seriously, it was crazy. Almost too slow, actually. I guess I'm still looking for that balance. :)

Jenny Houlahan said...

Don't worry on the having it all together! I'm near 30 and Nick is past 30 and we're nowhere near all together1 :P

Your nieces and nephew are simply precious! I wish my brothers would have babies, although I guess we're going to have kids first because neither of them are married!

We are having a whoa nelly day in some very good ways. I have to be mysterious because nothing is for sure yet, couple more weeks to see what's what :) hehe

Allie said...

Cute nieces and nephew!!  Funny story about Whoa Nelly. When I was super tiny, my dad was feeding my brother his bottle and I came into the living room and said Daddy I want some juice. He said Allie, right now Im feeding Mike so just hold your horses okay?  So I walked away and like 10 minutes my mom said went by and then I came back into the room with my riding horse(the one that is plastic and you rock it) I rocked that thing from room to room until I got to my dad. I came in, real proud and all and said, Daddy! I have my horse, can I have my juice now?  My mom said my dad was trying NOT to crack up when I was came into the room on my little horse.  Today was very blah, and I learned my lesson with the sun at 10:30-wear sunblock or else you will get burnt :/ I forgot it today :( Oops

I haven't use that phrase in a long time, but it's totally appropriate for how I feel about my life post-law school -- whoa Nelly, where's my job? Whoa nelly hard to believe I moved away from TX a year and a half ago...whoa nelly, I'm moving again!!

You and the hubby are SO cute together!!

Aww, Lindsay, your nieces and nephews are adorable! I agree that time flies by very quickly, so the best thing we can do is enjoy every minute! :)

Are these steel cut oats in your breakfast bowl? Or even whole oat grains? And your dinner looks fabulous again, I want some! (Quite the food envy over here again.  :D)

lindsay cotter said...

actually is millet. Very similar to steel cut oats as far as texture goes. I
love it for breakfast these days with cream. And for the last meal, it was
definitely a KATH style meal. Collard green wraps with sautees mushrooms,
zuchini, salmon, and eggs. Come over!

Not the biggest "whoa nelly" year for me but I do agree, the older I get - the faster time flies! It's good and bad, haha. I want to tell "young" people I know like high school kids to enjoy each day, each month, each year that they have, because for some reason, once you graduate high school, time starts zooming past you. Thanks for the reminder to take a deep breath and be thankful!

Sable@SquatLikeALady said...

Haha I totally had a whoa nelly day yesterday too!! My cousin's youngest daughter turned 5. I about fell over when I realized it lol! I was like NOOOOO you were just pregnant two years ago! No way!! Uhhh YUP! Time flies.

I also managed to convince myself that I was 21 the other day??? I don't know. I kind of don't pay attention to birthdays other than the cake part and the presents anymore LOL... Max was like "Um Sable you know you're two years older than that now right?" Sure. Yeah. I knew that. ;-)
