Spice and Ice (WIAW & WIWW)

Well I did it. Managed to survive another day. Still spamming around a few of you but I think we’re slowly resolving this, eh?

That being said, I also managed to take pictures of food Wednesday! woohoo! Cheers all around please!! Trust me, this whole computer thing has thrown me for a loop, so small accomplishments totally MAKE MY DAY! As they should, right Heather? hehe.

Its WIAW and WIWW. It’s also 103F outside and when that happens, the Cotters crave two things……

SPICY FOOD and ICE COLD food/drinks. Sweat it out and slurp it up!
So here goes.

GF Cheesy Protein Bread with cottage cheese and chipotle mustard

Turkey Avocado Sandwich on GF bread (udi’s) with fruit salad and nut butter dressing.
Yes, I use nut butter as dressing!

Spicy lentil, rice, and beef stir fry (other veggies are hidden under there somewhere)
and spinach blueberry salad

And last but not least DESSERT…..

Mint chocolate chip ice cream drooling down my face. It was so hot out that our ice cream was melting faster than we could lick it. Was it gluten free? no! Did I care at the time? NO!!
So worth the CREAMY ICE COLD goodness in my belly. Smile with tongue out

There's no point in being grown up if you cant be childish sometimes

ice cream

oh it ain’t over yet…..

WIWW (What I worked Wednesday)

Last week I brought back my outdoor conditioning class at the gym. All outside, limited equipment, lots of SWEAT! We jogged to a park, did a circuit routine, then jogged back. I’d say we had our fair share of fun…..once we finished it that is!

Sweat and Run Outdoor Fun

(like that title?)

Warm up run- 1 mile
  • 25 reps of each
    • reverse lunge off curb (25 each leg)
    • push ups on curb
    • prisoner squats (deep squat past 90 degrees with hands behind head)
    • snowboarders (see here)
    • tricep dips off curb
    • scissor kicks sitting on edge of curb
  • Run quarter mile loop around neighborhood
Repeat circuit 4x
Walk or jog back to gym/home/etc.

I think I need another ice cream just for completing this post.
What food cooled you off today? I know half will say watermelon. That’s a given!

Cheers!

One time I stored a Kombucha in a weird place in my fridge and it got just the right amount of icy...it was AMAZING. ICE COLD, baby. (Probably killed some bacteria but all's well.)
Bring on the heat. We can take it.

And ohhh my goodness I never could deal with spicy food..especially spicy southern Texas food!...when it was hot as blazes. I think the entire time I lived in San Antonio all I ate was ice cream ;-) haha

I ate ice cream today as well. I ate a flurry with buckeyes in it. It is only appropriate since I do live in the BUCKEYE state!!  I def. didnt run today. I wasnt feeling it, and now I wish I had of worked out since I ate ice cream :(  It was a rather dull day in Ohio today, so I def. didnt need the ice cream, but I was totally feeling it tho.

So I was reading the workout details and thought - wow, that sounds like an intense workout but I think I could totally do that...then I got to the bottom and read "Repeat 4x". Lol... how do you even have energy to type after that? Wow! :)

Jenny Houlahan said...

yey for your wonderful pics! :) I don't blame you for being happy given what tech problems have surfaced lately! mmm ice cream. I just got back from dinner with my buddy and can't decide whether I want ice cream or a protein muffin of some sort. It's only 60 degrees here! :P

I LOVE your workout! I am going to keep all of those moves in mind for when I just want to do my strength training outside in the sunshine! :)

Kate said...

Unfortunately there was no need to cool of here today, I'm not sure it even hit 70.  Instead we warmed up cooking in the kitchen which can get hard to do when it's really hot here, a perfect way to spend the rainy evening.

Katie said...

The weather cooled me off today.  It was cold and rainy.  I went to the gym, which was really really hard to motivate to do and then slept all afternoon.  Cooling off was not an issue.

She Rocks Fitness said...

Oh my goodness this post made me laugh out loud! First of all, all of your food choices for the day look AMAZING. I am going to try the almond butter dressing as a side dish. Love that idea! I cannot consume enough AB these days. High-Fives to the ice cream as well. I'm going to stop by to pick some up tomorrow night after work. Desperately craving some fro-yo with a sinful topping. Have a great night! xoxo

lindsay cotter said...

Whoops, I meant 4x max. Even one time would be awesome!

i mixed up cottage cheese, greek yogurt, & cold egg whites - yes it sounds weird, but it was delicious & cooling! :)

Your meal creations always look delicious and PACKED with all the important vitamins and nutrients. You really are a Nutrition Manager supreme! I've been eating an insane amount of almond butter. I can't get enough. My favorite is with bananas, but I need to drizzle it over a mixed fruit salad, too.

Julia said...

me and my brother and sister split a dessert chimichanga with vanilla ice cream inside tonight...it was AMAZING. and the perfect way to cool off! yum! I am loving your food choices today...always look so delicious :)

jessiepants said...

Mmmm, ice cream....I could eat it any time, any place.
I had a coconut water that was very refreshing today, but it WAS only 70 degrees here...sweltering I know.
Love to see that lovely smile, hope you and your main squeeze are having happy days this week.

Jen @ Run for Anna said...

Oh goodness...now I want ice cream!  :)

LivelyKitchen said...

Uh, the Dove dark chocolate ice cream bar I just savored did a great job of cooling me down and taking the edge off a rough afternoon.  In the heat of the day, however, I like a big (non sweet) iced tea.  Lots and lots of ice.  Extra points if it is sonic ice.   :)

chuck feerick said...

Whoo 103! So necessary to have ice cream on a day like that- no matter what!

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) said...

Those are my favorite types of workouts.  Lately I haven't been doing much cardio- only circuits with some plyo- just love them.  Prisoner squats? Never done those!  103? ugh!  I think it got to 63 today at the coast.  Brrr.  But tomorrow I head to the desert and I think it's about 105.  Best of both worlds??  Your bisque- it looks suspiciously like a smoothie! ;-)

Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) said...

Man I want to come to your classes SO BADLY!! They sound like SO much fun!! And I'm jealous of your heat!! Its not even sunny here, what's new?! :P

And ice cream is the BEST for cooling down!! And mint chic chip is definitely one of my faves!! I LOVE your WIAWs!! :D

lindsay cotter said...

forget the desert, come here. humidity and 103F. Does wonders for the skin!
haha. Can I lure you with endless bowls of smoothies? Or perhaps endless goblets
of wine?

I LOVEYOUR WORKOUT!! did you run 4 miles total or just repeat the exercises not the running? 103 degrees!!! holy shmokes!

lindsay cotter said...

The loops were only quarter mile so it was a mile warm up, a mile total between
sets, and then you can the option of a mile cool down. So 3 miles. But for some
non runners, I'd advise only the 2 miles. You totally can take up though to
however many miles. Just depends on how hard you want to go, ya know?
I bet you'd love it!
