A different kind of Spring Cleaning

Hello! It’s officially the first day of Spring. And it Austin, it already feel like summer, 85F for the high today. We go from cold and wet to hot and humid. Gotta love our Texas weather, so bi-polar!

Anyway, lots to talk about today. Spring Cleaning is on the brain for a lot of us, but I’d like to FOCUS on a different kind of Spring Cleaning. How about spring cleaning ourselves? No no, you won’t need Pine-Sol or bleach for that (least I hope not!).

I’m talking about all this “stuff” we hold onto and don’t want to let go of. All things we say we want to do but don’t. All things we want to be, but say we can’t. GET RID OF IT!!! Frankly, I am fed up with carrying it around. So here goes…..one, two, three LET GO!

This week, I’m going to focusing on just that. Spring Cleaning my body, mind, and soul!
First up….Spontaneity. I want can be spontaneous if I just let my controlling self go. I can try new things, change or add plans last minute, bake or cook with random ingredients….all just to feel SPONTANEOUS!
I gave it a whirl this weekend.
  • I changed my schedule up this week. In fact, it was last minute scheduling. But good thing it was because it allowed me to meet two lovely Bloggers!
I met up with the beautiful Jess for a bright and early run at Town Lake Trail. I just love this woman! So down to earth and genuine. We chatted the whole way and enjoyed every mile! Next time we’ll actually take pictures of ourselves! haha.
.
And the second meet up was with the kind hearted and fun loving Christin! What better place to meet than the FARMERS MARKET?!
blogger-christin
I’m a sucker for locally grown strawberries! Just see for yourself.

We laughed and talked the whole time. Trying out new foods and making jokes. Christin is a genius in the kitchen and she spoiled me with her gluten free muffins and kale chips.
Thanks Christin!

  • I changed my GOAL race that I was training for and instead ran a local 30K, last minute!
It was freeing! I didn’t even get timed. I allowed myself to enjoy the run, no set pace, no goal time, just run for fun and be proud of the training that went into it.
I even tried out new fuel (you should actually never do this if you are really going to race, just FYI), but it worked for me!
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
p.s. – I now have a new obsession with sharkies!
p.p.s I have a new training partner. She’s my favorite type of BIRD!

  • And lastly, I spontaneously played in the kitchen…..at midnight……with random ingredients. When I say random, I mean random!
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Don’t judge, late night snacks are the best! And no, that’s not a look of disgust but rather a chewy nutty goodness.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Good Gut GF Brownies. Want the recipe? I think you’ll have to wait for the next post when I talk about Spring Cleaning our bodies (aka guts and livers).

So, are you on board? Is this your kind of Spring Cleaning?

Cheers,
LC

I love sharkies - that is what I use when running long distances. Not a big fan of the Gu's myself...

Kristina @ spabettie said...

oh, so wish I could have been there for farmers market fun with you + Christin! (aren't her kale chips RAD?) ha - I never use that word. ;)

I love any and all gummis - sharkies are one of my favorites!!

I am doing all kinds of spring cleaning myself - literally AND figuratively! out Out OUT !!

i know, sharkies taste so good! the only GU that really works for me is the
plain flavor. Easy on the stomach!

Lucky you---meeting up with Christin---I love her! ...And lucky her too :)

I have the same spring cleaning goal! A total well being clean up.
I also want to get rid of some physical clutter too (hello closet and too tight clothes!)

Thanks for sharing the idea of spontaneity..I hadn't thought of that and I need more in my life. Today I spontaneously joined up with a friend and wow...had the best time.

Atta Lindsay!

I've been on a Spring Cleaning kick for the last 4 months ... have donated about 1/2 of my stuff.. maybe more. When I move it will be a cinch! ;-)

The other stuff... yeah... bit by a bug ... and so I was on self-imposed rest mode all weekend. It's amazing what happens when you make self-imposed rest... self-imposed reflection.... Sometimes the down time is just as valuable as the move time.... and all the more ego-challenging but soul benefitting! ;-)

Spring Cleaning your body? How interesting! I can't wait to read it.

I think it's hilarious you made these so late. Grandma Hollie is in bed by 10 ha. That is fantastic you were able to have two blogging meetups. They are always the best.

Heather @ Where's the Beach said...

Oh girl, I so need this type of spring cleaning too! I'm still very jealous that you and Jess got to go for a run together. Not bitter of course ;-) We'll all get to run together one day I know it!

lindsay cotter said...

Oh we better get that run! Let me know if you go to Dallas again!

Blonde Ponytail said...

You are so beautiful!! I love the theme you have started with "Spring Cleaning"!! Yes, I want that recipe!! If you created it, they have to be delish!!

I am jealous of that Austin weather!! I want sun and shorts weather.

That's great that you were prepared enough to run the 30k on a whim! Go Lindsay!

Rebecca Lustig said...

Oh, ya know, just a last minute 30k.... you're ridiculous, girlfriend!! also, for someone who's usually in bed before 10 (you and me both) i'm impressed you had the mental capacity and physical capability to bake at midnight!

ALSOOO, what are we going to do without the bachelor tomorrow night?!

Bre said...

Thumbs up to the 30km friend! :) And I'm totally OCD but I have to have the same brand and similar flavours for a race- no mixing allowed. Sharkies aren't my fave chews- I find they taste salty but I haven't tried them in over a year and a half. I'm on board for spring cleaning...right after spring training camp is over ;) I'm loving that idea so much. I need to give that some thought this week while I'm riding.

Chuckfeerick said...

Amen am I on board! First off, its so important to clear out the junk and anxieties and live freely. God has blessed up wit too much wonder in this life to spend time worrying or holding on to fears and anxieties.

And that's so amazing about your 30k! That's far! When is your marathon? I ran a half marathon this morning- it was 40 and raining. Is it useless to say I'm jealous of you? And I want that recipe!

Man, I REALLY need to be on board. Colin and I were talking about this last night. Too much random crap and not enough good stuff recently!

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) said...

I am so boarding that train! My knew way of thinking it to just let it go. Tony and I have really been working on that since it is so easy to let things get to you (especially when you are a sensitive person). We are focusing on the positive and working on the things we have control of and not letting the things we can't control get to us. I'm glad you had fun this weekend and Christin is such a sweetheart, so I'm sure that was fun! Have a great Monday Lindsay!

lauren@spiced plate said...

local strawberries! i'm jealous - we dont' get those here in maine until july! the brownies look awesome -- and good for your gut? now i'm curious... :)

Trust2345 said...

After this next weekend I know I'll have to do a little spring cleaning of my gut and liver. That's more my type of spring cleaning than the actual spring cleaning of the house etc. lol. I still have not gone to farmers market here...those strawberries just gave me the drive to go to it very soon!

Spontaneity for the win!! I love the feeling of just going with the flow, and having a GREAT day/weekend/week/month because of the fun random things that happen to come along :) On that note, a 30K is 18 miles..right??? Were you training fro that?! Ha, either way, an impressive run to tackle!

What was your goal race? 30km just last minute? you are AWESOME! I wish I could run that "just last minute".. it must be so easy for you lol.

Excited to see this recipe of yours..

Abby said...

What fun! I love to be spontaneous, but I think Dave is wearing off on me adn I am less spontaneous now than I was before. We joke that it takes him two weeks to do anything spontaneous.

I'm excited for this recipe... I'm going to try to do more GF foods from now on. Maybe not entirely, just mostly!

Susan (Oliepants) said...

Ach! No harm, no foul! There's lots going on once the days get longer... I'm still in Phase I: Phase III will take me right through to the end of APRIL! That's a plan I can get behind---long enough that I can settle into a rhythm, but not so long that I feel disconnected from the ending.

SO EXCITED that you independently came to the same place, though!! Great minds, and all that! :D I can't wait to read about your progress, too--and thanks for the info on James' recovery. FASCINATING! I heart extremes (if the name of my blog didn't tell you!), and the idea that he's a REAL, LIVE PROFESSIONAL athlete is so cool!
