Making Progress

Hey there. Thought I'd chime in to give you all a few updates.

Progress update number one.....

My baby scoby is soon to be a "mother." She's going to be a full blown mother scoby in about 5 days now. Its been so fun to see her grow. Yes, every morning I wake up and run downstairs to check on the growth. I am that dorky kid, just ask my husband. I do this all while wearing my glasses too.

see that white film?? Its getting thicker and thats a GOOD thing!! Wooho for the scoby belly.
So by this Saturday she'll be ready. Then I can BREW. Thanks to Hannah over at Kombucha Kamp for all the helpful tips. So the big question of the day is, what flavor juice should I add to my kombucha brew, if any?? I was thinking grape or cranberry, but I'm up for any and all suggestions.

Progress update number two....

Bringing back the taco Tuesday. The hubs is leaving again Thursday for THIS race and I wanted to make sure he was well fed beforehand. Taco Tuesday used to be a tradition in our house but kinda got neglected. Tonight it was its homecoming.

Tacos with farm fresh eggs, chipotle sauce, onion, chicken sausage, diced tomatoes, and JALAPENOS!! As if we don't sweat enough already with this 100 degree heat. But what can I say, we like the spice.
Heather from Where's the beach also had a taco Tuesday. I think hers was much healthier. Looks amazing too!!

Progress update number three.....

Mission Monday Makeover is will be back next week. Bre and I are thinking of using some seasonal fruits as well. I'd like to tweak a recipe from this new cookbook I won from Nicole at GreekTurnedAthlete.

My goal is to keep is vegan but also make it gluten free, oh and of course DELICIOUS AND SIMPLE! :)
Some recipe ideas I found in there. Blueberry cornmeal cakes, almond ginger bars, and peach sunrise muffins. I think I've got breakfast on the brain.

Well, I'm off to go watch that new show Master Chef. I secretly want to be on it.
:)
Cheers,
LC

SO excited for you little Kombucha Scientist! What a fun project - you'll be so pumped once you can start brewing. I think cranberry sounds great. Or POM!

I love taco Tuesday, although it's often taco Thursday or Wednesday around here. It's kind of go-to. Your's look amazing though- I totally forgot I have hard shells in my pantry and will be using those tomorrow for sure for some Taco Wednesday goodness. Thanks for the idea

Wow James races a lot! I thought I was the only who raced that often ha-- how does he make sure he recovers optimally?

My favorite flavor of Kombucha to make is raspberry lemon. Squeeze some lemon juice and drop some fresh raspberries in there. Or ginger juice and lemon. Or lemon cherry. I found some lilikoi and guava on my ride today, so my next batch will be lilikoi and guava. I can't wait to hear how yours turns out.

girl you're rocking the booch. you do know NOT TO ADD JUICE to your main batch, ONLY do it after you've bottled/jarred it. I pour a glass and then if i decide i want it flavored, i add an oz of juice or slice of fruit or some stevia if i want it...you may find that you dont enen want/need juice. I thought i did and was hellbent on sourcing all this juice and then after my 1st batch was ready, i didnt even want the juice b/c i was so proud of my my brew all on its own..no juice needed!

Look at the kombucha go! Taco any night is always a hit in our house. To me a taco is not a taco without jalapenos!

Ooh! I must check out that cookbook. I'm a cookbook collector. Ok, I just made that up, but I do love them!

LOL - thanks for the blog love on Taco Tuesday! Jalapenos are a must aren't they?! I should have mentioned that I pile them on mine after the pictures ;-) I think I forgot to add in the ingredients that I used fresh jalapenos too. I can't wait to hear your thoughts and see the recipes from that cookbook. It's one on my long wish list.
