Where to Begin??

Do you ever feel like your weekends just blend right in to your week days? Thats how I felt today. Monday, really? When did we get rest this weekend? Maybe it was the 6 hour car ride.....haha, not really. I had to keep the hubs entertained otherwise he gets antsy....kinda like a kid, haha.

Anyway, moving on to the weekend re-cap. We drove up to Buffalo Springs Lake in Lubbock, TX for James' race (Buffalo Springs 70.3). I wasn't going to go but I was able to get caught up on work Friday morning so that I leave for the weekend. It was nice to just chat in the car driving through the country side. We laughed and had good fun for about 2 hours and then got SUPER bored and were ready to find a Starbucks. Little did we know that we would not see a real town for about 3 more hours. EEk! No Starbucks here.....luckily I had a supply of ATHLETES honey MILK (Vanilla and Coffee flavors) to help us get over that hump.

So we arrive in Lubbock (land of TEXAS RAIDERS) and immediately search for food!! Where or Where can we eat? Natural food store?? I found one and when we got there, it closed. BOO! So we went to the local grocery store and found some random eats. Does eating a can of tuna from a hotel room water cup with apple/peanut butter and gluten free pretzels count as dinner? haha. Not much of a selection but we managed. Needless to say we hit up the free continental breakfast EARLY in the morning. First come first serve, right?

Alright, so Saturday was Expo, Pro meeting, and a little swim practice down at the lake.

I was able to run a little bit of the run course while the boys were swimming and all I could think of was "I'm feeling HOT HOT HOT." Not sure whats better, hot and humid or hot and dry. I think I like the dry....at least you can breathe.

So after a day of prepping, we decided to get some grub early and call it a night. Again not much of selection of eats. We found a hole in the wall (literally) Mediterranean place that served gyros and dolmas but unfortunately it didn't really hit the spot. So we drove in closer to campus and found our haven.

Awww....so good to see you Starbucks!

Coffee and dessert (gluten free cookies) made our night. Now we could sleep soundly till our alarm went off at 3:45am race day!

Race morning I always make James gluten free oats with banana, honey, and 1tbsp almond butter. It was quite tricky making in a Styrofoam coffee cup but again, we managed. I can't ever eat that early when I am just the spectator. My stomach was already in a mess of nerves so I grabbed a banana, Honey Milk Light, and trail mix for the road.

Now for the pics.... I'll let them explain the day.

Here we are....race morning. Swim is about to start. Beautiful sunrise.

Pro Swim Start

Kelly (Terenzo's Girlfriend) and I Cheering on our guys!

James off on the run. Crowie was with us cheering on the guys since he wasn't able to race. Very cool guy!

Lieto Smashes the course record coming in first. Congrats Chris!

Terenzo had a tough race and came in a close 2nd! Love that smile.

And the hubs..finishing a strong 5th after a HOT run!!

James managed to smile with me after the race even though he was extremely dehydrated.

Yes, so dehydrated he needed an IV. He didn't want the IV but Medical insisted and so do I!!!
Poor guy.....that needle  was big. I told him not to look.

Overall, it was a great race, great HARD & HOT course, and great people! Not long after we were back in the car a little delirious and ready to be home.

Once home, James had one request. SAUSAGE. Whats a wife to do but to feed her hard working husband! I ran out to the store and found some local jalapeno sausage for my man!

Jalapeno Sausage on toast with chalula and my homemade pepperjack spread. This was definitely a man's meal and I think we got his sodium intake covered for the day. hehe!

Recovery food for the rest of the week....lots of veggies, berries, salmon, etc. (antioxidant rich foods)!!

Anyone else cook a man meal's this weekend? Race any? Travel anywhere?

Okay, needing some extra zzz's.

Cheers,
LC

P.S.
Don't forger to take advantage of the BOGO FREE Athletes milk deal. The coupon is good for the next month.

I love free breakfasts at hotels. Heck, I love anything free! What an "interesting" dinner you had there...lol.

Congrats to your hubs. That is an intense race...so long! He's such a stud. How do these guys do it??

Cracking up, I can so relate to your on-the-road eating style. I've mastered Styrofoam cup use; not to mention, making hot water in the coffee maker for oatmeal, using straws as utensils, and of course eating odd combos of food for dinner. Ahhh race travel.

Congrats to your hubby! I like the race report from the wife's perspective!

Congrats to your Husband!

I make at least 2 man meals a week. I like them just as much as the Husband, well most of them. This week we had slider burgers, they were delicious.

Congrats to the hubs on the race! I think I'd prefer hot and dry too. We mostly have hot and humid though. I get sooo bored on road trips. We finally discovered the wonders of books on audio at least. Huge difference.

Congrats to James! Sounds/looks like a fun, beautiful, challenging trip. And the styrofoam cups are cracking me up!

I made some good grub this weekend for my man. His favorite comfort meal is grilled salmon, mash, butternut squash, green beans and avocado salad (avo, red onion, lime juice, salt & pepper). Yes, my husband has the eating habits of a health-conscious 80-year-old.

I just love your blog- makes me smile! The sausage had me laughing out loud!
I hear ya on the hotel/grocery store random dinner. I now travel with a plastic microwaveable bowl, metal spoon, and can opener! And Starbucks= essential. Never go anywhere without a package of their Via instant...just in case.
Tell James congrats again & good call on the IV. and I'm seriously jealous of that swim start.
No man's meal this weekend, no traveling (for once!!!), but lots of racing! :)

Dave gets antsy too!!! I always say that he's like a kid and I'm getting practice for motherhood now!

Go Jamess! What a star..stinks about need an IV, but heck! he finished fifth. Decent trade-up, I'd say. If I could finish any race in fifth place, I'd take an IV! :)

I will forever admire you and your hubby. SO freaking cute. I love that you get to go with him to his races too! 5th place, that is awesome. When I do meet somebody one day, I very much hope I can either convince him of a life of health and fitness, OR that I will meet somebody who is already equally involved. I just can't picture a marriage without that incorporated into it somehow. And you guys always have so much fun. :)

Thank you kindly dear Lindsay for always bestowing me with encouraging and thoughtful comments. I think during the last 5 months, you have been the most consistent in commenting, and I just wanted to say how much I always appreciate it!

Y'all are so adorable! I always get creative with my food in hotels. I've been known to stock up on apples and bananas from a continental breakfast. I feel the same way about Starbucks. They always come through for me. :)

Eating on the road is one of the biggest challenges to racing away from home. I think the food i take with me is 1/2 my luggage.

I've never really liked the continental breakfasts in hotels...unless they serve hot omeletes and scrambled eggs!

YAY to your husband!! Poor thing, to be stuck with a needle after such a hard run!

oh ya, they definitely had eggs at breakfast. One reason why I wanted to be the first one there. haha!

What a beautiful sunrise. I bet that made race morning a little better. Congrats to James for rockin in at fifth place. Poor guy having to get an IV. I'm so glad he's okay. Don't you hate going on trips and you can't find food. That's just annoying! :)
