My mother has a rare disease (Weigners) that requires her to take a medicine (I forget the name) that results in indigestion that is so bad that they prescribe medication to control the indigestion. She refused it (she only takes medication that is absolutely necessary) and said she'd control it with Slippery Elm. The doctor laughed her out of the consultation rooms. It worked.
